Lady Cats fall to Cowgirls in four sets

The Littlefield Lady Cats’ varsity volleyball team dropped their match on Saturday at home to the Plains Cowgirls, 1-3. With the loss, the Lady Cats fall to 1-5 overall on the season.

Sophomore, Madison McNeese, sent a kill out of bounds to open set one for the Lady Cats and Post followed it up with a kill, before hitting a ball into the net on the next play, making the score, 1-2.

Post responded with back-to-back points before Hannah Ballejo delivered a kill to trim the lead to, 2-4. A serve by junior, Ashtyn Parker, was returned out of bounds by the Lady Lopes, but Post responded with a four-point rally, forcing the Lady Cats to take a time out, trailing, 3-8.

Out of the break, Post sent a kill over the back line and McNeese followed it up with an ace, before sending her next serve into the net, pushing the lead out to, 5-9.

Littlefield would rally back to tie the set, 11-11, after an ace from Ellie Lopez. The Lady Cats surrendered a point after being called for four hits, but quickly tied things up, as Parker tipped a ball over the net for a kill, making the score, 12-12.

The teams went back-and-forth with Littlefield claiming a, 17-13, lead, after a kill attempt by Post landed out of bounds. Ballejo sent a serve short of the net to end the rally, But Post was unable to get their next serve over the net, making the score, 18-14.

The Lady Lopes would rally for back-to-back points, before being called for touching the net, turning the serve back over to Littlefield. Senior, Geyah Garza, delievered a kill through a Post blocker and followed it up with a tip over the defense for a kill on the next play to stretch their lead to, 21-16, as Plains took a time out to talk things over.

Out of the break, the Lady Cats would close out the set, with four consecutive points to take set one, 25-16.

In set two, the Cowgirls jumped out to a, 3-10 lead, after serving up an ace off of Ballejo. The rally continued for three more points, before a Lopez sent a tip past the defense for a kill, making the score, 4-13.

Littlefield was unable to get anything going offensively, as Post scored a kill off of senior, Samira Medina, to make it, 8-20. The Lady Cats would make it, 13- 24, as a kill from Post sailed over the boundary line, but the Lady Lopes would close out the set on the next play to take set two, 13-25

Ṗost began set three on an, 0-3, scoring run, before Parker delivered a kill to get the Lady Cats on the board. After a kill by Post, Parker and Lopes answered with back-to-back kills and a hit into the net by the Lady Lopes, had the set tied, 4-4.

The Lady Lopes responded with a, 0-5 scoring run, before they sent a serve short of the net, making the score, 5-9. Post added four point, forcing the Lady Cats to take a time out, trailing Post, 6-13. out of the break, some miss-communication by Littlefield, sparked a, 1-4, run for the Lady Lopes, making the score, 7-17.

Post sent a kill over the boundary line to give Littlefield a point, but quickly responded with a tip for a kill to make the score, 8-18. Littlefield would rally back to make it a seven-point game, as the Lady Lopes were blocked by Garza at the net, making the score, 15-22.

Ray served up an ace and Lopez followed it up with a tip that was hit out of bounds by Post, making the score, 17-22. But, the Lady Lopes would close out the set a few plays later with a kill to take set three, 18-25.

In set four, the Lady Cats fall into a, 3-10, hole, before the Lady Lopes sent a kill over the back line out of bounds. Ray had a serve go unreturned by Post, before her next one fell short of the net, making the score, 5-11.

The Lady Cats cut the lead to, 8-11, as Post hit a ball into the net, but the Lady Cats were unable to capitalize, as Parker’s kill was out of bounds, making the score, 8-12. The Lady cats would battle back to make it a two-point game, as a kill by the Lady Lopes sailed out of bounds, making the score, 15-17, but Ellie was blocked for a kill on the next play, and Post closed out the set on a, 0-8, scoring run to take set four, 15-25, and the match, 1-3.
