Lady Cats fall to Bushland in Bi-district

The Littlefield Lady Cats’ varsity volleyball team’s season came to an end on Tuesday night, as they fell to the Bushland Lady Falcons, 0-3, at Tulia Gymnasium.

With the loss, the Lady Cats finish the season with a mark of 1914 overall.

The Lady Falcons opened set one on a, 10-1, scoring run, before Logan Culpepper sent a hit into the net to make the score, 2-10. Kenzi Sims dropped in a tip that senior, Madison McNeese couldn’t get to for the dig, but Culpepper’s next serve sailed out of bounds, making the score, 311.

The Lady Cats couldn’t capitalize, as Julie Bownds sent a serve sailing over the back boundary line and Bushland followed it up with a kill to stretch their lead to, 3-13. Kaela Neie sent a kill over the boundary line off of a return from sophomore, Bri Valdez, but the Lady Falcons recovered, as Madyson Eberly sent a kill past senior, Kaeleigh Logan, extending their lead to, 4-14.

Bella Babbitt sent a kill past junior, Kennadi Hanlin, before sending her next serve out of bounds, trimming the lead to, 5-15. Eberly dropped a kill on the back line for Bushland, but the kill attempt by Babbitt on the next play, landed out of bounds, making the score, 6-17. Culpepper delivered a kill, forcing Littlefield to take a time out to talk things over.

Out of the break, a hit by freshman, Bryndle Ray, didn’t make it over the net, pushing the lead to, 6-19. A long dig by McNeese was killed at the net by Culpepper, off of the block attempt from McNeese, making the score, 6-20. Culpepper followed it up with a kill over sophomore, Mylie Hernandez and Bownds, but Camryn Barton’s nex serve sailed out of bounds, making the score, 7-21.

Sims sent a kill sailing out of bounds on the next play, but Culpepper responded with a kill past McNeese, making the score, 8-22. Sims and Culpepper scored back-to-back kills and Hernandez mistimed a tip at the net, as Bushland took set one, 8-25.

Bushland opened set two on a, 7-1, scoring run, before Littlefield took a time out to talk things over. Out of the break, the Lady Falcons were called for four hits, but Littlefield couldn’t capitalize, as Bownds sent a kill out of bounds, making the score, 2-8.

A return by Ray fell short of the net, but a tip by Hernandez was tipped out of bounds by Bayleigh Eason, trimming the lead to, 3-9. Culpepper sent a kill past Hanlin and Barton served up an ace off of Logan to extend their lead to, 311. the Lady Falcons went on a, 50, scoring run, before junior, Kenzi Jordan, dropped a kill in the back corner for the Lady Cats, trimming the lead to, 4-16.

Senior, Abigail Ybarbo, sent a serve out of bounds and on the next play, McNeese had a tip blocked by Jayce Ornelas, making the score, 4-18, as Littlefield took a time out to talk things over. Out of the break, Babbitt was called for a carry, but on the following play, McNeese’s tip was blocked by Sims and tipped out of bounds by McNeese, making the score, 5--19.

Bushland would close out set two on a, 6-0, scoring run to take set two, 5-25.

Bushland jumped out in front early in set three, before Hernandez delivered a kill to make the score, 2-4. Sims answered with a kill on the back row for Bushland and Eason followed it up with an ace off of Hanlin, making the score, 2-6. Bownds delivered a kill off of the block attempt from Jada Permenter, but Neie had a kill tipped out of bounds by Ybarbo on the next play and the following play, the Lady Cats were called for four hits, stretching the lead to, 38.

A hit went out of bounds off of Littlefield, before the Lady Cats were finally able to stop the bleeding to make the score 4- 9. Bushland answered with a kill, but the next serve from Eberly sailed out of bounds on the sideline making the score, 5-10.

A save by Ybarbo was mistimed at the net by junior, Kyndal Edgemon and Barton served up three consecutive aces, as Littlefield took another time out. Out of the break, Sims was called for touching the net and on the following play, Hanna Samford was blocked by Bownds and Hernandez, but the ball landed out of bounds, making the score, 516.

A kill on the next play by Bownds was hit into the net by the Lady Falcons and Neie mistimed a set at the net on the following play, cutting the lead to, 7-16. Bownds delivered a block on Samford that led to a Littlefield point and Hanlin served up an ace off of Neie, cutting the lead to, 916.

Bushland, though, would close out the set on a, 9-2, scoring to take set three, 10-25, and the match, 0-3.
