LADY CATS FALL TO #1 FILLIES IN AREA ROUND OF PLAY-OFFS, 68-31

The Littlefield Lady Cats’ varsity basketball team saw their season come to an end in the Class 3A Area round of the basketball play-offs as they fell to #1 Shallowater, 68-31.

With the loss, the Lady Cats finished the season with a mark of 12-8 overall, 10-2 in district play.

The Fillies opened the game on a, 9-0 scoring run, before junior, Brookelyn Gau, knocked down a jumper from the left wing to end the scoring drought for Littlefield, making the score, 2-9. Taylor Moravcik answered with a baseline jumper to stretch the lead to, 11-2.

Paige Parker was fouled on an attempt by senior point guard, Geyah Garza; she sank both free throws and then followed it up with a steal from junior guard, Emily Champion, taking it the other way for a fast-break lay-up, making the score, 15-2.

Taylor Moravcik dropped in a shot off the glass and Madilyn Barnes split a pair of free throws to close out the first quarter with Shallowater out in front, 18-2.

Brattain opened the second quarter with a three and Tynli Harris was fouled on a put-back attempt off of her own miss by junior, Ashtyn Parker. She converted both free throws to push their lead out to, 23-2.

Garza was called for a charge and the Fillies capitalized as Summer Williams drove to the basket for a lay-up, making the score, 25-2. Gau dropped in a lay-up, off of the assist from Garza to end the scoring drought for Littlefield, trimming the lead to, 25-4.

Taylor Moravcik dropped in a third-chance bucket and a few possessions later, Gau was fouled on the floor by Kami Wood earning a one-in-one opportunity at the line. She converted both free throws to trim the lead to, 27-6, but Shallowater answered with a three to push their lead back out to, 30-6. With time winding down in the half, sophomore, Madison McNeese, buried a three to make the score, 30-9, going into the locker room at halftime.

McNeese opened the second half with a three, but Harris and Brattain answered with back-to-back buckets for the Fillies to make the score, 34-12.

Brattain drained another three and Willer dropped ina bucket, drawing an and-one foul on Gau. The free throw was no good, making the score, 39-12. Summer Williams was fouled on an attempt by Garza, who picked up her third foul of the game. Williams connected on both free throws making the score, 41-12.

McNeese was fouled on an attempt by Taylor Moravcik and converted both free throws, but Willer scored on a cut to the basket for a lay-up, extending the Shallowater lead to, 43-14. Gau banked in a shot off of an inbound play, but Williams answered with a jumper for Shallowater, making the score, 45-16.

Harris was fouled on an attempt by Huey and converted both free throws , but on the other end, Garza drove the lane for a lay-up to make the score, 47-18. Brattain answered with a three, but with one minute remaining in the quarter, Garza was fouled on an attempt by Barnes. She split the attempts, trimming the lead to, 50-19. On their next possession, Garza was fouled on an attempt by Paige Parker and again split the free throws, making the score, 50-20, as the third quarter came to a close.

Willer buried a three to open the fourth quarter, but on the other end, Champion was fouled on the floor by Maci Moravcik, earning a one-in-one opportunity at the line. She split the free throws making the score, 53-21.

Taylor Moravcik answered with a bucket for Shallowater, but on the other end, McNeese was fouled on an attempt by Brattain, who picked up her third foul of the game. McNeese made one-of-two shots at the line, making the score, 55-22. Garza scored a fast-break lay-up off of a steal for Littlefield, but on the other end, Harris caught an inbound pass and buried a three for the Fillies, making the score, 58-24.

McNeese was fouled on an attempt and split a pair of free throws, but Harris answered with another three for Shallowater, pushing their lead to, 61-25. Freshman, Arianna Cruz, was fouled on the floor in the double-bonus; she sank both free throws, trimming the lead to, 61-27. On their next possession, McNeese was fouled on the floor by Paige Parker, who picked up her fourth foul of the game. She converted both free throws, but Paige Parker responded with a lay-up on the other end, making the score, 63-29.

With 2:39 remaining, Barnes was fouled on an attempt by Garza and split the free throws, pushing their lead back out to, 64-29. Barnes was fouled again on the next play by Garza, who fouled out of the contest. She converted both free throws and followed it up with a bakset on their next possession, making the score, 68-29.

McNeese knocked down a jumper in the lane, as the Lady Cats fell to the Fillies, 68-31.

McNeese led the team in scoring with 14 points, while Gau chipped in eight points and Garza contributed six points. Cruz tallied two points and Champion finished with one point.
