Lady Cats drop heart-breaker to Forsan, 2-3

The Littlefield Lady Cats’ varsity volleyball team dropped a heart-breaker to Forsan at Ropes on Tuesday, 2-3.

With the loss, the Lady Cats fall to 11-4 overall on the season.

Forsan opened set one with a point, as a hit by the Lady Buffaloes was tipped out of bounds by Madison McNeese. Emma Buske served up an ace off of McNeese, before a kill attempt by Aleena Nelson sailed out of bounds, making the score, 1-2. Kenzi Jordan delivered a soft kill off of a set from Bryndle Ray to tie the set, 2-2, and Kaeleigh Logan followed it up with a kill to put the Lady Cats in front, 3-2.

The Lady Cats would go on a, 6-0, scoring run, that ended when Jordan touched the net on a play, making the score, 9-3. Forsan served up an ace off of Alex Hernandez and on the next play, Ray was called for a double-hit, trimming the lead to, 9-5. Two plays later, Forsan would cut the lead to two points, after Jovi Ward tipped the net for a kill, making the score, 9-7.

Nelson sent a kill into the net for Forsan and Logan delivered back-to-back kills to push the Littlefield lead back out to, 12-7. Bri Valdez sent a serve short of the net to end the rally, but the Lady Buffaloes could not capitalize, as Jordan tipped the net for a kill past the block attempt from Torah Smith and Kiara Wright followed it up with an ace off of Lybertee Rodriquez, making the score, 14-8.

Forsan would not go away, as they rallied back to draw within one point of the Lady Cats, after Vivika Ballejo hit the foul pole, cutting the lead to, 15- 14. McNeese would respond with a kill for the Lady Cats to regain the serve and a hit on the next play by Forsan didn’t make it over the net, stretching the lead to, 17-14.

Kyndal Edgemon sent a kill out of bounds and the return by Abigail Ybarbo on the next play did not make it over the net, trimming the lead to, 17-16. McNeese would drop in a tip in front of Ward for a kill to regain the serve for Littlefield, and Forsan sent a hit into the net on the following play to make the score, 19-16.

Edgemon delivered a kill off of Nelson and a kill attempt by Nelson on the next play fell short of the net, stretching the lead to, 21-16. Nelson’s tip on the next play didn’t make it over the net, but the rally ended for Littlefield when Jordan was called for being over the net, making the score, 22-17. Jordan responded with a kill in front of Rodriquez, but on the next play, Nelson tipped the net for a kill in front of Kennadi Hanlin, making the score, 23-18.

Forsan served up an ace, but the Lady Cats responded, as Hernandez dropped in a kill between two Lady Buffalo players to extend the lead to, 24-19. Jordan sent a tip into the net, but the set would end on the next play, after Nelson’s serve fell short of the net, giving Littlefield set one, 25-20.

Hernandez sent a hit outside of the pole to open set two, but McNeese delivered a kill off of Ward and a save by Rodriquez on the next play did not make it over the net, making the score, 2-1. Edgemon delivered a kill off of Rodriquez, but Nelson answered for Forsan with a kill off of the block attempt by Julie Bownds and Edgemon, trimming the lead to, 3-2. Emma Buske got a hit over the net, but it landed out of bounds, giving the serve back to Littlefield with the score, 4-2.

Forsan, though, would rally back and tie the set a few plays later, after Smith tipped the net for a kill to make the score, 5-5. Harleigh Greer followed it up with an ace off of Hanlin and Jordan sent a kill sailing out of bounds, stretching the Forsan lead to, 5-7. Littlefield would knot it up two plays later, after Forsan was called for a double-hit to make the score, 7-7, but a kill attempt sailed out of bounds from McNeese putting The Lady Buffaloes back in front, 7-8.

Forsan would rally for five points, before a serve from Ward fell short of the net, making the score, 8-13. Forsan answered with a kill off of Logan, but Jordan responded for the Lady Cats with a kill over the Forsan block attempt to trim the lead to, 9-14.

After falling down by as many as five points, Littlefield would bounce back and tie the set, 19-19, after a tip by Ward fell short of the net. Their rally ended when Bownds sent a hit into the net, putting Forsan back in front, 19-20. Ray was called for a double-hit and Ward delivered a kill off of the block attempt from Bownds to push their lead to, 19-22.

A hit by Nelson didn’t make it over the net and Bownds followed it up with a tip in front of Buske for a kill to cut the lead to one point, 21-22. A tip by Ward fell between three Lady Cats for a kill, but Jordan answered with a kill to make the score, 22-23. Ward delivered a kill off of Logan, but McNeese came right back for Littlefield, with a kill past Rodriquez, making the score, 23-24.

Forsan sent a kill sailing out of bounds to tie the set and Smith sent a hit out of bounds on the sideline to put the Lady Cats in front, 25-24, as Forsan took a time out to talk things over. Out of the break, Smith sent a hit into the net, giving Littlefield set two, 26-24.

Forsan, though would rally back to take set three, 23-25, set four, 24-26, and set five, 10-15, taking the match, 2-3.
