Lady Cats come up short in first meeting with CHildress

The Littlefield Lady Cats’ varsity volleyball team fell at home on Tuesday to the Childress Lady Bobcats, 0-3, in district play.

With the loss, the Lady Cats fall to 1-2 in district play.

Littlefield found themselves in an, 0-3, hole to open set one, before Kaydence Simpkins sent a hit into the net to make the score, 1-3. Simpkins was blocked by Mylie Hernandez for a kill and on the next play, Hernandez’s kill was tipped out of bounds by Jena Preston to tie the set, 3-3. Adah Henderson ended the Littlefield run with a kill that Kennadi Hanlin couldn’t get to on the dig try, putting Childress back in front, 3-4.

Julie Bownds sent a hit over the net, but it landed out of bounds and a hit on the next play by Kaeleigh Logan landed out of bounds, pushing the Childress lead to, 3-6. Journey Prince sent a hit sailing out of bounds to end the run for Childress, and Bownds dropped in a tip over Prince on the next play for a kill to make the score, 5-6. Littlefield would tie it up on the next play, as Simpkins sent a hit sailing out of bounds and the Lady Cats would take their first lead of the match, as a hit by Sophie Stephens didn’t make it over the net, make the score, 7-6.

A dig by Preston landed out of bounds and the hit by Simpkins sailed over the boundary line, as Littlefield extended their lead to, 9-6. Childress was called for four hits, after a hit by Simpkins didn’t make it over the net and the Lady Cats kept the rally going, as a hit by Angelica Torres didn’t clear the net, making the score, 11-6. The rally ended when Logan was blocked by Prince for a kill, trimming the lead to, 11-7.

Kenzi Jordan sent a hit over the net, but it landed out of bounds, but on the next play, she tipped the net for a kill, making the score, 12-8. Corbin Daniel answered with a kill off of Hanlin to regain the serve for Childress, but Madison McNeese fired right back with a kill off of Chloe Churchill, pushing their lead to, 13-9.

A dig by Logan was hit over the back boundary line by Prince, but Logan’s next serve was short of the net, making the score, 14-10, as the serve went back to Childress. Henderson delivered a kill off of Bri Valdez and Daniel followed it up with a kill between the block attempts of McNeese and Jordan, cutting the lead to, 14-12. Childress kept the rally going, as Daniel sent a kill past Jordan’s block attempt and Henderson sen a kill off of Abigail Ybarbo to tie the set, 14-14.

Daniel sent a kill off of the block attempt from McNeese, as Littlefield took a time out to talk things over. Out of the break, Jordan touched the net on a block try, but on the following play a tip by Hanlin was tipped backwards by Churchill, landing for a Littlefield point to make the score, 15-16. Henderson responded for Childress with a kill in front of Ybarbo and Hernandez hit the foul pole with her hit on the next play to make the score, 15-18.

Kyndal Edgemon sent a kill over the back boundary line, but Daniel’s next serve for Childress fell short of the net, making the score, 16-19. Childress would close out the set on a, 1-6, scoring run to take set one, 17-25.

Daniel sent a kill pat Ybarbo to open set two, but she was called for being across the net on a tip on the next play, tying the set, 1-1. Hernandez sent a kill through the block attempts of Daniel and Henderson to put Littlefield in front, 2-1, but Henderson answered with a kill for Childress to tie things up, 2-2.

Daniel sent a serve sailing out of bounds, but a hit outside of the foul pole by Hernandez kept the set tied, 3-3. McNeese sent a kill into the net and Henderson followed it up with a kill at the net off of a long dig from Bownds, making the score, 3- 5. Simpkins dropped in a tip for a kill and Preston served up an ace on the back line, before Hernandez delivered a kill on the back row for Littlefield to make the score, 4-7.

Both teams sent a serve short of the net, but Childress responded, as Torres delivered a kill off of Jordan to make the score, 59. McNeese was blocked by Prince for a kill and Prince followed it up with a kill that Ybarbo couldn’t get to for the dig, making the score, 5-- 11. The rally ended when Churchill sent a serve out of bounds, but the Lady Cats couldn’t capitalize, as a save by McNeese was hit out of bounds on a dig attempt from Edgemon, stretching the Childress lead to, 6-12.

Prince was called for touching the net on a play, but Childress answered, as Daniel sent a kill off of the block attempt from McNeese, making the score, 7-13. Aspen Lomax served up back-toback aces, forcing Littlefield to take a time out to talk things over. Out of the break, Edgemon delivered a kill to cut the lead to, 8-15, and a tip on the next play by Henderson landed out of bounds, trimming the lead to, 9-15.

A kill on the next play, though, was tipped out of bounds by Hernandez giving the serve back to Childress with the score, 9-16. Bownds had a kill partially blocked by Henderson, before it fell in for a kill and Hanlin served up an ace off of Lomax, cutting the lead to, 11-16. A kill attempt by Henderson sailed out of bounds, but she responded on the next play, delivering a kill off of the block attempt by Bownds and Herandez, making the score, 12-17.

Bownds answered with a kill off of the block attempt from Henderson, but Henderson responded with a kill over the block attempt from Bownds, making the score, 13-18. Jordan sent a hit into the net and a tip by Bownds on the next play was blocked by Prince for a kill, making the score, 13-20. Littlefield took a time out and out of the break, Bownds delivered a kill off of Henderson to trim the lead to, 14-20.

Childress would close out the set on a, 1-5, scoring run to take set two, 15-25, going up, 0-2, in the match.

Littlefield fell behind early in set three and never fully recovered, as they fell to Childress, 16-25, in set three, dropping the match, 0-3.

The Lady Cats were at Shallowater to close out the first half of district play on Saturday. Results were not available at press time. They will continue their season on Tuesday with a non-district game against Dimmitt.

First set is scheduled for 6 p.m.
