The Amherst Lady Bulldogs’ varsity basketball team picked up their first win of the season last Friday over the Cotton Center Lady Elk, 38-28.
With the win, the Lady Bulldogs improve to 1-5 overall on the season.
Amherst jumped out to a, 15-5, lead in the first quarter and outscored the Lady Elk, 8-4, in the second frame to take a, 23-9, lead going into the locker room at halftime.
Amherst edged out Cotton Center, 11-10, in the third quarter, but the Lady Elk out scored the Lady Bulldogs, 9-4, in the final quarter, however, Amherst came away with the victory, 38-28.
Liz Medrano led the team in scoring with 14 points, and she was joined in double-figures scoring by Jasmine Acosta, who fmished with 12 points.
Dennys Reyes chipped in five points, while Kat Amalla added three points and Maricella Gonzalez and Yaz Tones each fmished with two points.
