Hornets sting Eagles, 52-7

The Sudan Hornets’ varsity football team stayed in the win column, stretching their winning streak to two games, after a, 527, thrashing of the Ropes Eagles on Friday.

With the win, the Hornets improve to 2-1 overall on the season.

The Hornets totaled 456 yards of total offense; 383 rushing yards and 73 passing yards, while holding Ropes to 94 total yards.

Marcello King got the Hornets going in the first quarter with a 13- yard score and Josue Cervera followed it up with a 64- yard touchdown run to stretch their lead to, 12-0. King would add a 21-yard score and Cervera followed it up with a two- point conversion run to push their lead to, 20-0.

Ropes responded with a twoyard touchdown run to make the score, 20-7, after the PAT, but on the very next play, Cervera would return the kick-off 96yards to the house and Trent Wilson would keep it himself on the two-point conversion to extend their lead to, 28-7. Sudan would close out the first quarter with a 37-yard touchdown strike from Wilson that found Kaleb Robinson. Wilson rushed for the two-point conversion to make the score, 36-7, as the first quarter came to a close.

After a scoreless second quarter, Wilson broke free for a 35-yard touchdown run and he connected with Truett Kerby for the two- point conversion to stretch their lead to, 44-7. King would close out the game in the fourth quarter with a 13-yard touchdown run that was followed by the two-point conversion run from Matthew Lopez, as the Hornets took the contest, 52-7.

Wilson finished the game, five- of- eight passing for 73 yards and one touchdown, while adding 13 carries for 99 yards and one score.

King led the rushing attack with 16 carries for 146 yards and three scores, while Cervera chipped in 12 carries for 125 yards and one touchdown.

In the receiving game, Robinson finished with one catch for 37 yards and one touchdown, while Alan Flores chipped in one catch for 19 yards and Sal Juarez added one catch for 15 yards.

Defensively, the Hornets recovered two fumbles and were led in tackles by Jeremiah Castillo, who finished with seven total tackles, one sack and three tackles for loss. Jaden Conley also had six tackles, one sack and one tackle for loss.

The Hornets will be @ Seagraves on Friday to take on the Eagles.

Kick-off is slated for 7 p.m.
