Hornets homecoming spoiled by Crosbyton

The Sudan Hornets’ varsity football team had their Homecoming spoiled by the Crosbyton Chieftains, as they fell on Friday, 26-20.

With the loss, the Hornets fell to 0-5 overall on the season.

In the first quarter, Josue Cervera, rushed for a 16-yard touchdown and Marcello King added the two-point conversion, making the score, 8-0, heading into quarter number two.

Sudan added to their score in the second quarter, when Cervera rushed for a 60-yard touchdown to make the score, 14-0, heading into the locker room at halftime.

The third quarter belonged to Crosbyton, as Eric Marquez got the Chieftains on the board with a five-yard rushing touchdown. The PAT was no good by Jose Lerma, trimming the lead to, 14-6. AJ Pesina would throw a 26-yard touchdown strike and Crosbyton would convert the two-point conversion to tie the game, 14- 14

Ṫhey closed out the third quarter with a 24-yard touchdown pass from Devin Williams to put them out in front, 20-14, heading into the final quarter of play.

Crosbyton would make it 26 unanswered points, as they opened the fourth quarter with a three-yard touchdown run by Pesina, making the score, 26- 14, after the failed two-point conversion.

Cervera would score on a nine-yard touchdown run for Sudan, but the Hornets’ comeback efforts fell short, as they fell to Crosbyton, 26-20.

They will host Roscoe on Friday to close out the predistrict schedule.

Kick-off is slated for 7 p.m.
