The Sudan Hornets’ varsity football team is coming off of a come-from-behind road victory against the Olton Mustangs, 37-27.

With the win, the Hornets improve to 1-0 overall on the season.

“We found out how we would respond when adversity hit,” Head Coach John Cornelius said. “I was really proud of how our team responded.”

He added, “We moved the ball well, played with good pace, but we have to eliminate the turnovers and penalties this coming week. We were also able to get some key turnovers and score two touchdowns on defense. That really sparked our team when we needed it most.”

The Hornets turn their attention this week to the Sundown Roughnecks (1-0), who are coming off of a, 6-0, victory over the Muleshoe Mules.

“We will have to stop their power run game,” The coach said. “They have a big offensive line and they like to run it right at you. We have to be prepared to stop that.”

He added, “The keys to getting a victory are going to be: don’t turn it over, limit penalties, and force Sundown into second and third and long situations.

The Hornets will take on Sundown at 7 p.m. on Friday at Roughneck Stadium.
