Hornets clip eagles, 36-20

The Sudan Hornets’ varsity football team pushed their winning streak to three games on Friday, as they clipped the Seagraves Eagles, 36-20, for the Homecoming victory.

After a scoreless first quarter, Seagraves struck first in quarter number two with a six-yard touchdown run by Ethan Salazar. The PAT was no good, leaving the score, 6-0. Josue Cervera answered for the Hornets with a 40-yard rushing touchdown that was followed with a two-point conversion run by Trent Wilson to put Sudan in front, 8-6.

Later in the quarter, Marcello King would punch it in from oneyard out to make the score, 14-6, going into the locker room at halftime.

Seagraves opened the second half with a 29-yard touchdown run from Dacian Wilborn, but they missed on the two-point conversion, leaving the score, 14-12. Sudan would answer, as Trent Wilson broke free for a 53-yard touchdown run to stretch their lead to, 20-12, after the failed twopoint conversion. Later in the third, Wilson would find the end zone again, this time on a 14-yard run. He would connect with Tony Vargas on the twopoint conversion pass to extend their lead to, 28-12, heading into the final quarter of play.

In the fourth quarter, Cervera found the end zone for his second score of the night on a four-yard touchdown run and Wilson followed it up with the two-point conversion to stretch their lead to, 3612. Seagraves would answer with a 19-yard touchdown run from Salazar, which was followed with a two-point conversion run by Raymond Rodriguez, but the Hornets would prevail, 36-20.

Wilson finished the game sevenof- 11 passing for 86 yards and added 14 carries for 119 yards and two touchdowns.

Cervera finished with 12 carries for 97 yards and two scores, while King added 13 carries for 52 yards and a score.

In the receiving game, Sal Juarez led the team with three catches for 44 yards, while Truett Kerby finished with two catches for 23 yards and Alan Flores added two catches for 19 yards.

Defensively, Juarez had eight total tackles, including one for loss and he also hauled in an interception and recovered a fumble. Jeremiah Castillo recovered a fumble to go along with five tackles, including one for loss, and King chipped in one interception to go along with six tackles, one for loss.

Matthew Lopez led the team in total tackles with 12, while Drew Carr tallied 11 tackles and Jaden Conley finished with 10 tackles.

The Hornets will be at home this Friday to take on the Plains Cowboys for Homecoming.

Kick-off is slated for 7 p.m.
