The Anton Bulldogs’ varsity football team improved to 3-0 on Friday with a, 58-8, road victory over the Wellman-Union Wildcats. They will look to carry that momentum into their match-up with Lorenzo this week.

Head Coach Matthew Hoover talked about the victory, saying, “We need to carry the consistency over to week four. Against Wellman, we played the best all around game so far this season.”

Junior quarterback, Jack Champion, finished the game eight-ofeight passing for 198 yards and four touchdowns, while adding nine tackles, one interception and a defensive touchdwon, defensively.

Senior, Quinton Sherrod, tallied eight rushes for 105 yards and three touchdowns, while adding 12 tackles on defense. Lane Vellinga contributed two catches for 87 yards and one touchdown, while Slade Hodges finished with nine tackles, three sacks and seven quarterback hurries.

This week the Bulldogs host the Lorenzo Hornets for Homecoming.

“Offensively we are starting to take care of the little things and really polish that up,” Coach Hoover said. “We are beginning to execute at a high level, but we still have plenty of room for improvement.”

He added, “I thought defense played amazing, we are hitting on all cylinders. We need to keep gang tackling and playing at the high intensity.”

The coach talked about what he feels the keys to victory will be, stating that they have to continue to eliminate mistakes and play at a high level.

Kick-off is slated for 7:30 p.m. at Bulldog Stadium in Anton.
