Big second half lifts Nettes past Lady Horns, 68-57

A big second half leads the Sudan Nettes’ varsity basketball team to victory in their districtopener at Lockney on Tuesday, 68-57.

With the win, the Nettes improve to 9-7 overall, 1-0 in district play.

The Nettes jumped out to a, 1714, lead in the first quarter, but in the second frame, Lockney outscored the Nettes, 12-7, to take a, 26-24, lead into the locker room at halftime.

In the third quarter, though, the Nettes erupted for 24 points, while holding the Lady Horns to 15 points, putting Sudan back in front, 48-41, heading into the final quarter of play. In the final frame, Sudan outscored Lockney, 20-16, to take their district-opener, 68-57.

Stevi Lockhart led the team in scoring with 32 points, to go along with seven rebounds and three steals, while Gracyn Shultz tallied 15 points, four steals, three rebounds, two blocks and one assist, and Braelyn Pointer tallied 11 points, three rebounds and one steal.

Kambry Tolbert chipped in four points, three rebounds, two assists and one steal, while Blessy Montes added three points and one assist, and Edette Herrera contributed three points, three rebounds and three assists. Landree Gonzales tallied two rebounds and two steals, while Elaine Martinez finished with one assist and one steal.

The Nettes were at home to take on Floydada on Friday as district play continued. Results were not available at press time. They will continue district play on Tuesday with a road game against Ralls.

Tip-off is scheduled for 6:15 p.m.
