Lady Cats sweep Post in straight sets, 3-0

The Littlefield Lady Cats’ varsity volleyball team got back in the win column on Tuesday, as they took down the Post Lady Lopes in straight sets, 3-0.

With the win, the Lady Cats improve to 12-6 overall on the year.

Littlefield fell into an, 0-2, hole to begin set one, but Alexandria Hernandez of Post was called for touching the net on a block attempt and Littlefield’s Julie Bownds followed it up with a kill past Abcde Gutierrez, tying the set, 2-2. Kyndal Edgemon was partially blocked by Hernandez, but the strong hit still fell in for a Lady Cat Point and Madison McNeese followed it up with an ace to stretch their lead to, 4-2.

Post was called for a blocking fault, but Littlefield’s rally came to an end when Bownds was called for touching the net on a block attempt, making the score, 5-3. Hernandez’s serve sailed over the back boundary line for Post, but on the next play, Bryndle Ray was called for double contact on the set, trimming the lead to, 6-4.

Guerrero sent a serve short of the net, and Post touched the net on the next play, pushing the Littlefield lead to, 8-4. Bri Valdez’s serve went un-returned and Rylee McDaniel was blocked by Bownds for a kill to stretch the lead to, 10-4. Kaeleigh Logan sent a kill off of Rodriguez, but Vadlez’s next serve sailed out of bounds, trimming the lead to, 11-5.

Littlefield would regain the serve on the next play, as a hit by Bownds fell in for a kill and she followed it up with an ace off of Zapert, extending their lead to, 135. McDaniel was called for double contact on a set, but the Lady Lopes answered with a kill that was tipped at the net by Kenzi Jordan, making the score, 14-6.

Post would cut the lead to, 1410, before a serve from Nadia Soto landed out of bounds on the sideline, turning the serve back over to Littlefield. Neither team could capitalize as they each sent serves out of bounds, but Aneliz Alaniz served up an ace off of Abigail Ybarbo, cutting the lead to, 16-13.

McNeese responded with a kill off of Gutierrez and a long dig from McDaniel was killed at the net by Bownds, making the score, 18-13. McNeese kept the rally going with an ace off of Guerrero, but on the next play, Edgemon’s kill attempt landed out of bounds, making the score, 19-14.

Hernandez serve up an ace off of McNeese, but on the next play, the hit by Guerrero sailed into the net, pushing the lead back out to, 20-15. The teams went back-andforth with Post cutting the lead to, 22- 19, before the Lady Cats slammed the door. A save by Gutierrez landed out of bounds and McNeese followed it up with a kill off of Rodriguez to make the score, 24- 19. A long dig by Gutierrez off of the serve from Logan made it over the net, but landed out of bounds, as Littlefield claimed set one, 25-19.

The Lady Cats opened set two on a, 3-0, scoring run, before a hit by Gutierrez fell in for a kill on the sideline to make the score, 3-1. McDaniel dropped a kill in the back corner for Post, but Hernandez was called for touching the net during a block attempt on the next play, making the score, 4-2.

Logan won a tip battle at the net with Guerrero, but McDaniel answered with a kill in front of McNeese to trim the lead to, 5-3. The teams went back-and-forth until McNeese delivered a kill off of a long dig by Rodriguez making the score, 8-6. Serenity Sanchez was called for double contact and on the next play, Logan served up an ace off of Serenity Sanchez pushing their lead to, 10-6.

Edgemon hit the foul pole with a hit, trying to play a tough set from Valdez, but the Lady Cats would regain the serve on the next play, as Alaniz sent a hit into the net, making the score, 12-6. Alaniz delivered a kill off of a long dig from Ray and Rodriguez’s serve went un-returned on the next play, cutting the lead to, 12-8.

Rodriguez’s next serve landed short of the net, giving the serve back to the Lady Cats. A tip by Alaniz was hit into the net by Ray, and Alaniz followed it up with an ace off of Kennadi Hanlin, trimming the lead to, 13-10. Hernandez was called for touching the net, but on the following play, Bownds had a tip blocked by Guerrero for a kill making the score, 14-11.

Valdez was called for double contact, but Guerrero’s serve on the next play sailed into the net. McNeese was blocked by McDaniel, but the ball landed out of bounds for a Littlefield kill, but McNeese’s swing on the next play landed out of bounds, making the score, 17-13. Logan dropped a kill in the back corner for the Lady Cats, but Nadia Soto answered with a tip that fell in for a kill and Gutierrez followed it up with an ace between McNeese and Ybarbo, making the score, 18-15.

A kill attempt by Edgemon sailed out of bounds and a dig on the next play by Hanlin was killed at the net by Sanchez, making the score, 18-17, as Littlefield took a time out to talk things over. Out of the break, McNeese sent a hit into the net to tie the set, 18-18, but Gutierrez’s serve on the next play sailed out of bounds, putting Littlefield back in front, 19-18.

A kill attempt by Alaniz sailed out of bounds and Ray followed it up with an ace off of Hernandez to make the score, 21-18. Sanchez touched the net on a block attempt against McNeese and on the next play, a hit by Alaniz landed out of bounds on the sideline, pushing the lead to, 23-18. After a time out, Alaniz touched the net on a block attempt against McNeese, but on the following play, Edgemon’s kill attempt landed out of bounds, trimming the lead to, 24-19.

McNeese sent a kill out of bounds, but on the next play, a tip by Guerrero went into the net, ending the set, 25-10, to put Littlefield up, 2-0, in the match.

The Lady Cats found themselves in a, 1-7, hole to open the third set, but after Post was called for touching the net, Hanlin served up an ace off of Rodriguez to trim the lead to, 3-7. Bownds delivered a kill at the net off of a long dig from Rodriguez and Logan dropped a kill on the back line, before Post answered with a kill from McDaniel off of Hanlin to make the score, 5-8.

McDaniel was called for touching the net on a play and on the following play, Serenity Sanchez sent a hit outside of the pole, trimming the lead to, 7-8. Valdez sent a serve sailing out of bounds and Alaniz followed it up with a kill off of Jodan to push their lead back out to, 7-10. McDaniel served up an ace off of Hanlin, but the Lady Cats would rally back and tie the set, 13-13, after McNeese dropped a kill on the back line.

Edgemon tipped the net for a kill and McNeese followed it up with a kill off of the block attempt from Guerrero. Hernandez sent a hit outside of the pole and Ray followed it up with an ace off of Hernandez, pushing the Littlefield lead to, 17-13, as Post took a time out to talk things over. Out of the break, Guerrero was blocked by McNeese for a kill, but Ray’s next serve landed out of bounds on the sideline, making the score, 18-14.

Post would not go down without a fight, as they rallied back to tie the set, 21-21, on an ace from McDaniel, however, Serenity Sanchez was called for touching the net and Jordan followed it up with a kill off of a long dig from Rodriguez to make the score, 2321. Nadia Soto was called for touching the net on a block attempt, as the Lady Lopes took a time out to talk things over. Ybarbo’s serve out of the break sailed out of bounds, but McNeese ended the match on the next play with a kill off of Gutierrez, making the score, 25- 22, as Littlefield took the match, 3-0.

The Lady Cats will traveled to Wellman-Union on Saturday for a dual with Wellman-Union and Buena Vista. Results were not available at press time. They will open district play on Tuesday with a home game against Idalou.

First set is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
