Mustangs advance to Consolation final with victory over Rams

The Olton Mustangs’ varsity basketball team bounced back in their second round game on Tuesday against Portales, downing the Rams, 66-51, to move to the Wildcat Classic Consolation Bracket final.

With the win, the Mustangs improved to 1-1 in tournament play.

Olton jumped out to a, 12-4 lead to end the first quarter and added 17 points in the second frame, taking a 29-18, lead into the locker room at halftime.

Olton poured in 20 points in the third quarter, but Portales didn’t go down without a fight, as they netted 22 points in the fourth quarter, but the Mustangs prevailed, 66-51.

Chris Urbina led the team in scoring with 26 points, while Brennon Huguley joined him in double-figures scoring with 10 points. Alex Santillan chipped in eight points, while Joe Canchola tallied six points, and Nick Casares and Nathan Urbina each added four points. Jake Soliz finished with three points in the contest.
