LADY WOLVERINES OPEN DISTRICT WITH BACK-TO-BACK WINS

The Springlake-Earth Lady Wolverines’ opened up district play last week with back-to-back wins over Cotton Center and Lazbuddie.

With the wins, the Lady Wolverines improve to 10-5 overall, 2- 0 in district play.

In their district-opener last Tuesday against Cotton Center, the Lady Wolverines jumped out to a, 15-8, lead at the end of the first quarter. They poured in 19 points to make the score, 34-14, going into the locker room at halftime.

In the second half, they added 19 points in the third quarter and 14 points in the fourth quarter, while holding Cotton Center to 12 total points in the second half, taking the contest, 67-28.

They were led in scoring by Halee Toscano, who netted 21 points, and she was joined in double-figures scoring by Sayler Beerwinkle, who finished with 16 points. Taytum Goodman tallied nine points, while Mahalia Delgado and Maricela Rodriguez each chipped in seven points. Emma Samaron tallied four points and Jasmine Garcia finished with three points in the contest.

On Friday, against Lazbuddie, The Lady Wolverines’ offense wasted no time getting started, as they outscored the Lady Horns, 26-4, in the opening quarter. They netted 18 in the second frame to extend their lead to, 44-10, going into the locker room at halftime.

They poured in 26 points in the third quarter to open the second half and added 17 in the final quarter to take the contest, 87-19. Toscano again led the Lady

Toscano again led the Lady Wolverines with 28 points and she was joined in double-figures scoring by Beerwinkle, who netted 18 points, Goodman, who tallied 16 points and Samaron, who finished with 12 points. Delgado contributed six points,

Delgado contributed six points, while Furr added four points and Garcia finished with three points.

The Lady Wolverines will be back in action on Mon. Dec. 27 th when they travel to Littlefield for the Wildcat Classic. Their first game will be against Portales on Monday morning.
