Mustangs blowout Roughnecks, 92-30

The Olton Mustangs’ varsity basketball team defended their home court on Tuesday, as they took down the Sundown Roughnecks, 92-30.

With the win, the Mustangs improve to 13-2 overall on the season.

Olton blew the doors wide open in the opening quarter, as they poured in 22 points, while holding Sundown to six points in the first quarter. The Mustangs added 21 point in the second frame to take a, 43-11, lead into the locker room at halftime.

They erupted for 30 points in the third quarter and netted 19 in the final frame to take the contest, 92-30.

Andrew Martinez led the Mustangs in scoring with 27 points, to go along with five rebounds, one assist and one steal. He was joined in doublefigures scoring by Chris Urbina, who netted 17 points, to go along with six rebounds and three assists; Brennon Huguley, who tallied 12 points, six rebounds, two assists and two steals; Nick Casares, who finished with 10 points, six assists, four steals and two rebounds, Alex Santillan, who tallied 10 points, seven assists, three steals and two rebounds.

Nathan Urbina chipped in seven points, two rebounds and one steal, while Joe Canchola contributed six points, two rebounds, one assist, one steal and one block, and Jimmy Munoz, who added three points, four rebounds and one assist. Jake Soliz finished with three rebounds, three steals and one assist.

The Mustangs traveled to Plains on Friday to take on the Cowboys. Results were not available at press time. They will continue their season on Monday when they host the Littlefield Wildcats.

Tip-off is scheduled for 6:15 p.m.
