LADY WOLVERINES GO UNDEFEATED AT WHITHARRAL INVITATIONAL

The Springlake-Earth Lady Wolverines’ varsity basketball team went 2-0 over their last two games at the 2021 Whitharral Invitational this past weekend to take the championship.

They went 3-0 overall in tournament play.

In their game on Friday against Lubbock All-Saints, they Lady Wolverines cruised to a, 47-16, victory.

The Lady Wolverines jumped out to a, 13-4, lead in the first quarter and never looked back, holding their opponent to nine points in the first half, taking a, 24-9, lead into the locker room at halftime.

They outscored All-Saints in the second half, 12-4, in the third quarter and, 11-3, in the fourth quarter to take the contest, 47-16.

Sayler Beerwinkle and Taytum Goodman led the team in scoring with 11 points apiece, while Halee Toscano joined them in double-figures scoring with 10 points. Sydney Furr chipped in six points, while Jasmine Garcia netted five points and Emma Samaron finished with four points.

In the Championship game on Saturday against Sudan JV, the Lady Wolverines took the contest, 66-41 to take first place in the tournament.

In the first quarter, Springlake-Earth jumped out to a, 13-6, lead and they outscored the Nettes, 16-7, in the second quarter to take a, 29-13, lead into the locker room at halfitme. Out of the break, Springlake-Earth outscored Sudan, 22-15, in the third quarter and, 15-13, in the fourth quarter to take the contest, 66-41.

Beerwinkle led the team in scoring with a game-high 20 points. She was joined in double-figures scoring by Goodman, who netted 15 points, Toscano, who chipped in 13 points and Samaron, who added 10 points. Sydney Furr finished with eight points in the contest.

The Lady Wolverines opened district play on Tuesday at home against Cotton Center. Results were not available at press time. They will continue district play on Tuesday with a home game against Lazbuddie.

Tip-off is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
