NETTES FINISH 2-2 AT SHALLOWATER SHOOTOUT

The Sudan Nettes’ varsity basketball team went 2-2 at the 2021 Shallowater Shootout this past weekend.

After picking up a win in the opener on Thursday over Andrews, the Nettes followed it with a win over the Estacado Lady Matadors, 44-33, in their first game on Friday.

The game was tied, 14-14, after one quarter, but in the second frame, Sudan outscored the Lady Matadors, 11-5, to take a, 25-19, lead into the locker room at halftime. The Nettes added 12 points in the third quarter, before both teams poured in seven points in the final quarter, as the Nettes took down Estacado, 44-33.

Senior, Addison Boehing, led the team with 18 points, to go along with five rebounds and three steals. Junior, Stevi Lockhart, tallied 11 points, three rebounds, two steals, one assist and one block, while junior, Gracyn Shultz, chipped in nine points, three rebounds, two assists and one steal.

Elaine Martinez tallied four points and three rebounds, while junior, Braelyn Pointer, chipped in two points one rebound and one assist and senior, Sydney Cornelius, contributed three steals and one assist. Landree Gonzales added one assist and one steal and Kambry Tolbert finished with one rebound and one steal.

In their second game on Friday, the Nettes played the host team Shallowater, falling to the Fillies, 77-54.

Shallowater poured in 30 points in the opening quarter, while the Nettes netted 17 points. Sudan notched 13 points in the second frame, but trailed the Fillies, 46-30, going into the locker room at halftime. In the second half, Shallowater edged out the Nettes, 15-13, in the third quarter and, 16-11, in the fourth quarter, as the Nettes suffered their first loss of the tournament, 77-54.

Lockhart led the team with 25 points, four rebounds three steals and two blocks, while Boehning added 21 points, nine rebounds, six steals and two assists. Pointer chipped in three points and two rebounds, while Shultz contributed three points, two rebounds, two assists and two steals and Riley Edens notched two points and three rebounds. Tolbert finished with two rebounds in the contest.

On Saturday, the Nettes took on Lubbock High, falling to the Westerners, 53-37. Lubbock High held a one-point lead after one quarter, 8-7, but the Nettes poured in 13 points in the second quarter to take a, 20-13, lead into the locker room at halftime.

But, in the second half, Lubbock High, outscored the Nettes, 18-8, in the third quarter and, 22-9, in the fourth quarter, as they took down Sudan, 53-37.

Boehning led the team in the contest with 13 points, seven steals, six rebounds and three assists, while Shultz tallied nine points, three rebounds and one steal. Lockhart contributed six points, three rebounds, one assist, one steal and one block, while Martinez notched four points, three rebounds two steals and one assist. Edens tallied three points and two rebounds, while Cornelius chipped in two points and five rebounds and Gonzales chipped in two rebounds, one steal and one block.

Tolbert added one assist and one steal, while Pointer finished with one rebound in the contest.

The Nettes were at Levelland on Tuesday. Results were not available at press time. They will be at home against Floydada on Mon. Dec. 13 th.

Tip-off is scheduled for 6:15 p.m.
