Wildcats drop opener against Big Spring, 52-47

The Littlefield Wildcats’ varsity basketball team dropped their opener at the Denver City Shootout to Big Spring, 52-47.

With the loss, the Wildcats fall to 0-1 in tournament play.

Big Spring jumped out to a, 16-7, lead in quarter number one, but the Wildcats came roaring back in the second frame to tie the game, 22-22, going into the locker room at halftime.

Big Spring, though, poured in 18 points in the third quarter, to stretch their lead to, 40-34, going into the final quarter of play. In the fourth quarter, Littlefield outscored Big Spring, 13-12, but fell short in their comeback efforts dropping the contest, 52-47.

Omar Martinez led the team in scoring with 20 points, while Jordan Trevino chipped in nine points and Tyrell Norman contributed seven points. Chip Green tallied six points, while Jaron Cabello added three points and Elijah Salazar finished with two points.

Littlefield played Classical on Friday. Results were not available at press time. They will continue their season on Tuesday with a home game against Floydada.

Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m.
