The Littlefield Lady Cats’ varsity basketball team took down the Monahans Lady Loboes on Tuesday, 50-25, at Wildcat Gym.

With the win, the Lady Cats improve to 3-3 overall on the season.

Senior, Ashtyn Parker, was fouled on an attempt by Adrianna Hernandez, earning a trip to the line. She split the free throws to put the Lady Cats in front, 1-0. Junior, Madison McNeese, buried a deep three from the top of the key and senior guard, Emily Champion, picked up a steal and was fouled on an attempt by D’Andrea Smith. She converted both free throws to make the score, 6-0, with 6:42 remaining in the opening quarter.

Champion picked up another steal and got it to McNeese, who sent the outlet pass down court to Champion, who dropped in the fast-break lay-up to extend their lead to, 8-0, as Monahans took a time out with 5:26 left to play in the first quarter.

Out of the break, Jade Munoz was fouled on an attempt by sophomore, Kyndal Edgemon, earning a trip to the line. She converted both shots at the line to get the Lady Loboes on the board, but Amiah Elizondo answered on the other end with a lay-up to push the Littlefield lead back out to, 10- 2.

Munoz dropped in a lay-up for Monahans, but on the other end, sophomore, Kennadi Hanlin scored a lay-up off of the assist from McNeese, stretching the lead to, 12-4,with 2:30 remaining in the quarter. Hernandez scored a putback on the right side for Monahans, but on the next play, senior, Leilani Solis, picked up a steal and drew a block on her shot attempt on Sydney Vasquez, earning a trip to the line. She made one-of-two shots at the line to make the score, 13-6.

With under one minute to play in the quarter, Solis buried a three from the right wing off of the assist from Parker, making the score, 16-6, as the first quarter came to a close.

McNeese opened the second quarter with a steal, getting it ahead to Champion, who drew a shooting foul on the play on Hernandez. She made the first shot and missed the second one to make the score, 17-6. Monahans answered, as Lisa Flores scored a put-back off of the miss by Alliessha Banks, but the Lady Cats responded as McNeese knocked down back-to-back jumpers and buried a three form the right wing to extend their lead to, 24-8, with 3:15 to play in the first half.

Arianna Cruz was fouled on the floor by Munoz, earning a one-in-one opportunity at the line. She split the free throws and on the other end, Banks drained a three from the right wing for Monahans, trimming the lead to, 25-11, with under two minutes remaining in the first half.

Hernandez was fouled on an attempt by Cruz; she split the free throws to trim the lead to, 25-12, but with time winding down in the half, Brianna Valdez knocked down a dribble up three from the right elbow to make the score, 28-12, going into the locker room at halftime.

Parker dropped in a lay-up off of the assist from McNeese to open the second half and Edgemon followed it up on their next possession with a drive down the left baseline for a lay-up, drawing an and-one foul on Hernandez. She converted the free throw to extend their lead to, 33-12.

With just under 5:30 to play in the third quarter, McNeese buried a three from the left elbow off of the assist from Champion and Solis followed it up with a three from the left elbow off of the assist from senior, Mahalia Huey, making the score, 39-12.

Huey split a pair of free throws after being fouled on an attempt by Issabel Rivas, but Cruz picked up a steal on the next play and took it the other way for a fastbreak lay-up, pushing their lead out to, 42-12, with 1:11 remaining in the quarter.

Rivas scored a fast-break layup and Kieli Lopez knocked down a jumper from the left wing to close out the quarter on a strong note for Monahans, still trailing the Lady Cats, 42-16.

After a Monahans time out to begin the final frame, Hernandez was fouled on an attempt by Edgemon and converted both free throws to trim the lead to, 42-18. Munoz followed it up with a runner on the left side, drawing an and-one foul on Parker. She nailed the free throw to cut the lead to, 42-21, with 5:11 left to play in the game.

Edgemon picked up a steal on their own end of the floor and got it to McNeese for a lay-up and Gau followed it up with a lay-up off of a turnover, before Munoz knocked down a jumper in the lane for Monahans to stop the bleeding with the score, 46-23, with 3:49 remaining.

Elizondo took a charge on Lopez, as Monahans took a time out with 2:20 left to play in the game. Out of the break, Elizondo and Jazzmin Rosalez scored back-to-back buckets for the Lady Cats, but in the closing seconds Munoz scored a fast-break lay-up for Monahans, as Littlefield took the contest, 50-25.

McNeese netted 15 points to lead the Lady Cats in scoring, while Solis chipped in seven points and Champion contributed five points. Elizondo tallied four points, while Parker, Cruz, Edgemon and Valdez each added three points.

Hanlin, Rosalez and Gau each added two points, while Huey finished with one point.

The Lady Cats will return to the court on Nov. 30 th when they travel to Hereford to take on the Lady Whitefaces.

Tip-off is set for 6:30 p.m.
