Wolverines fall in seasonopener to Texline, 92-70

The Springlake-Earth Wolverines’ varsity basketball team fell on the road on Saturday to the Texline Tornadoes, 92-70, in their season-opener.

With the loss, the Wolverines fall to 0-1 to begin the 2021-22 campaign.

Texline jumped out to a slim lead in the first quarter, 22-18, despite three triples from Springlake-Earth senior guard, Evan DeLeon. The Tornadoes outscored the Wolverines, 21-15, to extend their lead to, 43-33, going into the locker room at halftime.

In the third quarter, the Wolverines poured in 20 points to make the score, 65-53, heading into the final quarter of play. But, in the fourth quarter, Texline went off for 27 points to down the Wolverines, 92-70.

DeLeon led the team in scoring with 28 points, and he was joined in doublefigures scoring by JJ Jaramillo, who finished with 22 points.

Kaden Castillo tallied nine points, while Alex Alvarez chipped in seven points, Keshan Holmes added three points and Trace Goodman finished with one point in the contest.

The Wolverines were at Plains on Monday. Results were not available at press time. They will continue their season on Nov. 30 th with a home game against Sundown.

Tip-off is slated for 8 p.m.
