Lady Wolverines pick up win over Smyer, 51-33

The Springlake-Earth Lady Wolverines’ varsity basketball team picked up their first win of the season on Tuesday with a victory over Smyer, 51-33.

With the win, the Lady Wolverines improve to 1-2 overall on the year.

Smyer jumped out to a onepoint lead after the first quarter, 9-8, but in the second frame, the Lady Wolverines poured in 14 points, including a pair of threes from junior, Halee Toscano, making the score, 22-17, with the Lady Wolverines in front going into the locker room at halftime.

Springlake-Earth outscored the Lady Cats, 13-6, in the third quarter and, 16-10, in the fourth, behind seven points from senior, Sayler Beerwinkle, as they took the contest, 51-33.

Toscano led the team in scoring with 16 points, and she was joined in double-figures scoring by sophomore, Taytum Goodman, who netted 14 points and Beerwinkle, who finished with 11 points.

Senior, Micaela Fuentes, and Emma Samaron each added three points, while Mahalia Delgado and Sydney Furr each finished with two points in the contest.

The Lady Wolverines hosted Crosbyton on Friday. Results were not available at press time. They will continue their season on Monday with a road game against the Plains Cowgirls.
