LADY CATS FALL TO LEVELLAND, 74-24

The Littlefield Lady Cats’ varsity basketball team fell on the road on Tuesday to the Levelland Loboettes, 74-24.

With the loss, the Lady Cats fall to 1-3 overall on the season.

Emma Kent buried a three from the right wing off of the assist from Myka Graf to open the first quarter for Levelland and Marleah Ruiz took the ball to the basket on the right side for a lay-up to push their lead to, 5-0, with 6:35 remaining in the opening quarter.

Graf dropped in a lay-up off of a steal and followed it up on their next possession with a lay-up off of a turnover to extend their lead to, 9-0, as Littlefield took a 30-second timeout with 5:26 remaining in the opening quarter. Out of the break, Colbi Barnett was fouled on a putback attempt by senior, Ashtyn Parker. She converted one-of-two shots at the line to make it a doubledigit Levelland lead, but it was short-lived, as sophomore, Kyndal Edgemon, got the Lady Cats going on the other end, as she dropped in a runner from the right side to make the score, 10-2.

With 4:18 remaining in the quarter, Laci White dropped in a lay-up on the right side and Ruiz followed it up with a three from the left wing, stretching the Levelland lead to, 15-2, with 3:45 remaining in the quarter. Edgemon dropped in a lay-up on the right side off of the assist from Arianna Cruz, but Levelland answered, as White dropped in a lay-up on the left side, drawing an and-one foul on Cruz. She knocked down the free throw to finish off the three-point play, making the score, 18-4.

With just under three minutes to play in the quarter, Kent drove the lane, kicking the ball out to White on the left wing, who buried a three for the Loboettes, extending their lead to, 21-4. With 1:37 left to play in the first quarter, senior, Emily Champion, picked up a steal and was fouled on the offensive end by Emery Smith, earning a trip to the line. She made one-of-two shots at the line, trimming the lead to, 21-5.

Levelland would close out the final minute of the first quarter on a, 5-2, scoring run to take a, 26-7, lead into quarter number two.

After both teams took a charge to open the second quarter, Raegan LaBadie dropped in a lay-up to get the Loboettes on the board in the second frame, making the score, 28-7, with 4:26 left to play in the first half.

Amiah Elizondo answered with a lay-up on the other end for Littlefield, drawing an and-one foul on LaBadie. She converted the free throw to cut the lead to, 28-10. However, Graf answered with a three for Levelland and Carly Tienda and Graf scored back-to-back transition buckets to extend their lead to, 35-10

Ėdgemon dropped in a floater in the lane for Littlefield and in the closing seconds sophomore, Kennadi Hanlin, split two pairs of free throws to make the score, 35-14, with the Loboettes in front going into the locker room at halftime.

Ruiz opened the second half with a back-door pass to White on the baseline for a lay-up, as she drew an and-one foul on senior Leilani Solis. The free throw was no good, leaving the score, 37-14. Kent followed it up with a three from the left elbow and Graf made it back-to-back threes for the Loboettes, as she buried one from the left elbow off of the assist from Kent, stretching their lead to, 46-14, with 6:11 to play in the third quarter.

Littlefield took a 30-second time out and out of the break, Edgemon was fouled on an attempt by Barnett. She split the free throws, trimming the lead to, 46-15. Barnett dropped in a lay-up off of the assit from Kent, but Parker answered on the other end with a lay-up off of the assist from Rosalez to make the score, 48-17.

Kent dropped in a bucket for Levelland and Ruiz followed it up with a lay-up in transition, off of the assist from Graf, pushing their lead out to, 52-17. With under three minutes to play in the quarter, Graf was fouled on an attempt by Parker. She made the first shot, and missed the second, but the ball went out of bounds off of Elizondo, with the score, 53-17.

Barnett scored a put-back off of a miss by LaBadie and Kent scored a lay-up off of a turnover to extend the lead to, 57-17. With 1:20 remaining in the quarter, Carly Tienda scored a fast-break lay-up, but on the other end, Cruz answered with a three to cut the lead to, 59-20. The Loboettes, though, would close out the quarter with a lay-up from Amaya Munguia, off of the assist from LaBadie, making the score, 61-20, heading into the final quarter of play.

Parker scored the first points of the fourth quarter on a lay-up off of the assist from Champion, but the Loboettes would go on a tear, closing out the game on a, 13-2, scoring run to take the contest, 74-24.

Edgemon led the team in scoring with seven points, while Parker chipped in four points and Cruz and Elizondo each finished with three points. Solis, Hanlin and Rosalez each tallied two points and Champion finished with one point in the contest.

The Lady Cats hosted Tahoka on Friday. Results were not available at press time. They will continue their season on Monday with a road game against Andrews.

Tip-off is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
