Hornets fall at New Home, 40-6, to end regular season

The Sudan Hornets’ varsity football team fell on the road to New Home in their regular season finale, 40-6.

With the loss, the Hornets finish the regular season 2-8 overall, 2-2 in district play.

In the first quarter, Logan Addison threw a 10-yard passing touchdown, followed by the PAT to put the Leopards in front, 7-0. Cook opened the scoring in the second quarter with a 54-yard passing touchdown, but Sudan would strike back later in the quarter, as sophomore quarterback, Trent Wilson, rushed for a one yard score, to cut the lead to, 21-6. New Home would add three

New Home would add three scores in the third quarter, including a 58-yard punt return touchdown to close out the Hornets, 40-6.

Sudan totaled 363 yards of total offense, including 218 rushing yards and 145 passing yards.

Wilson finished the game 13-25 passing for 145 yards; he also added 19 carries for 72 yards and one touchdown.

Josue Cervera led the rushing attack with 16 carries for 142 yards, while Michael Limon led the receiving game with eight catches for 114 yards. Sal Juarez also had one catch for 22 yards.

Defensively, Limon hauled in an interception to go along with six total tackles, while Jaurez talied five assists to go along with a fumble recovery. Jaden Conley led the team in total tackles with 11, including two for loss, while Drew Carr tallied 10 total tackles and Gabe Cisneros finished with seven total tackles.

The Hornets will be at Denver City on Thursday to take on Wink in the Class 2A Bi-district round of the Play-offs.
