The Littlefield Lady Cats’ varsity volleyball teams season came to an end on Saturday afternoon in Hereford, as they fell to the Bushland Lady Falcons, 0-3.
Senior, Ashtyn Parker, dropped in a tip over the Bushland block attempts for a kill to open set one, but Kaela Neie answered with a kill off of the block attempt from sophomore, Julie Bownds, tying the set, 1-1.
Jaycee Adams served up an ace off of junior, Madison McNeese, and on the next play, McNeese sent a kill sailing out of bounds, extending the Bushland lead to, 1-3. Adams served up another ace off of McNeese and Bownds was blocked on the next play by Neie and Emma Troxell for a kill, stretching their lead to, 1-5.
Bownds was called for touching the net, but the Lady Falcon rally ended when Adams sent a serve short of the net, making the score, 2-6.
Bushland would regain the serve, as Troxell delivered a kill off of the block attempt from sophomore, Kyndal Edgemon, making the score, 2-7. A tip by Troxell was hit back over the net and out of bounds on a dig attempt from Parker, but Millie Maupin’s next serve fell short of the net, trimming the lead to, 3-8.
Neie sent a kill attempt sailing out of bounds on the next play, but Maupin would answer for Bushland, as she dropped in a tip that was hit out of bounds by senior, Danielle Zapata, making the score, 4-9.
Neie sent a serve sailing out of bounds and Abby Howell followed it up with a kill that landed out of bounds, cutting the lead to,
6-9, however Bushland would regain the serve on the net play, as Troxell dropped a kill on the back row to make the score, 6-10.
Howell sent a kill past Zapata and McNeese touched the net on the next play, pushing the Bushland lead to, 6-12. McNeese was blocked on the following play by Allye Pitt and Eberly for a kill, as Littlefield took a time out to talk things over.
Out of the break, Edgemon touched the net on a save attempt and on the following play, Howell dropped in a tip over the block at tempt by McNeese and Edgemon for a kill, stretching the lead to, 6-15.
Howell had a kill tipped at the net by McNeese before falling in for a kill and senior, Emily Champion, sent a kill sailing out of bounds to make the score, 6-17. Troxell’s serve was tipped out of bounds by the Lady Cats for an ace, but senior, Gideon Bramwell, ended the run with a kill for Littlefield to trim the lead to, 7-18.
Littlefield couldn’t capitalize on the play, as Champion sent her serve sailing out of bounds, giv ing it right back to Bushland. Howell sent a kill past Champion and Zapata and Logan Culpepper served up an ace off of Champion to extend the lead to, 7-21.
Bownds had a kill hit out of bounds by Megan Potter, but Eberly answered on the next play, sending a kill past Abigail Ybarbo, making the score, 8-22. Parker had a kill land out of bounds and a hit by junior, Kaeleigh Logan, landed out of bounds on the next play to make the score, 8-24.
Eberly came across the line on a hit for Bushland, but Ray’s serve on the next play sailed out of bounds, making the score, 9-25, as Bushland took set one.
Rachel Russell’s serve to open set two was short of the net, but the Lady Falcons answered on the next play, as Troxell delivered a kill that Ray couldn’t dig, making the score, 1-1. Howell sent a kill over the boundary line to put Littlefield back in front, but it was short-lived, as Eberly answered with a Bushland kill to tie the set, 2-2.
Zapata hit a ball out of bounds trying to play it off the net and another hit out of bounds by Littlefield on the next play has the Lady Falcons in front, 2-4. A tip by Bramwell was tipped at the net by Camryn Barton, before landing out of bounds, cutting the lead to, 3-4. Howell responded with a kill in front of the block attempt by McNeese and Bramwell, but Bramwell killed a free ball at the net to make the score, 4-5, as Bushland took a time out to talk things over.
Out of the break, Neie sent a kill past Zapata, but McNeese delivered a kill off of Eberly to make it a one-point game, 5-6. Bushland would rally for three points, before Maupin sent a serve sailing out of bounds to make the score, 6-9.
Troxell sent a kill past Champion and Neie delivered an ace off of Champion, before Neie sent a serve short of the net to make the score, 7-11. Troxell dropped in a kill in front of senior, Julie Rodriguez, but Bramwell answered with a kill off of Russell to make the score, 8-12.
A set by Maupin was too high for Eberly, trimming the lead to, 9-12, but Bushland would recover, as Eberly tipped a ball over McNeese’s block attempt for a kill, making the score, 9-13. Howell sent a kill sailing out of bounds, but Bushland again answered, as Howell dropped in a tip over Bramwell for a kill, making the score, 10-14.
Jada Permenter served up an ace in front of sophomore, Kennadi Hanlin, and McNeese sent a kill sailing out of bounds on the next play to extend the Bushland lead to, 10-16, but a dig by Hanlin led to a hit out of bounds by Bushland, trimming the lead to,11-16.
Bushland would close out set two on a, 4-9 scoring run to take the set, 15-25.
Littlefield fell into an, 0-5, hole to start set three, before Adams sent a serve short of the net. Barton delivered a kill in front of Ybarbo, before Maupin sent a serve sailing out of bounds, making the score, 2-6.
Bushland would rally for eight points, before Neie sent a serve sailing out of bounds to make the score, 3-14. McNeese was called for touching the net while trying to defend a tip by Eberly, sparking another three-point rally, that ended when McNeese delivered a kill in the back-right corner for Littlefield, making the score, 4-18.
The Lady Falcons, though, would respond, ending the set on a, 1-7, scoring run to take set three, 5-25, and the match, 0-3.
