OLTON SHUTS OUT WEST TEXAS, 49-0

The Olton Mustangs’ varsity football team pitched a shut-out, en route to a, 49- 0, throttling of West Texas at Mustang Stadium on Friday night.

With the win, the Mustangs improve to 6-3 overall, 2-2 in District play.

Olton wasted no time getting started in the first quarter, as junior quarterback, Logan Lassiter, connected with junior receiver, Jake Soliz, for a 58-yard touchdown pass to put the Mustangs in front, 7-0, after the PAT by Lassiter. Later in the first quarter, senior running back, Josue Castro-Barajas, punched in a 14-yard rushing touchdown to extend their lead to, 14-0, after the Lassiter PAT.

Olton stayed on the offensive attack in the second quarter, as senior receiver, Eric Valencia, caught a 10- yard touchdown pass from Lassiter to stretch their lead to, 21-0, after Lassiter’s PAT sailed through the uprights. Junior, Brennon Huguley, got in on the scoring later in the second quarter, as he caught a 14-yard touchdown pass from Lassiter to make the score, 28-0, after the PAT, going into the locker room at halftime.

In the third quarter, Valencia and Lassiter connected for their second score of the game, this time on an 18-yard touchdown pass, pushing the lead to, 35-0, after the PAT by senior, Josh Marquez. Later in the third, Lassiter would find Soliz, who broke free for a 61-yard touchdown to extend their lead to, 42-0, after Marquez’s PAT.

Olton would tack on one more score in the final quarter, on a three-yard run by Josh Marquez to make the score, 49-0, after he drilled the PAT.

Lassiter finished the game15-20 passing for 301 yards and five touchdowns. He also added seven carries for 42 yards.

Senior, Ezekiel Molina, led the rushing attack for Olton with nine carries for 75 yards, while Josh Marquez tallied seven carries for 48 yards and one touchdown and senior, Josue Castro-Barajas finished with eight carries for 37 yards and one touchdown.

In the receiving game, Soliz led the way with four catches for 170 yards and two touchdowns, while Valencia chipped in three catches for 49 yards and two touchdowns and Huguley finished seven catches for 77 yards and one touchdown.

Defensively, sophomore, Jacob Marquez, led the team in tackles with 14, while Molina and junior, Damian Marquez, each tallied 11 stops and sophomore, Christian Chancey, added eight tackles.

The Mustangs will close out the regular season on game at Farwell to take on Friday night with a road the Steers. Kick-off is set for 7 p.m.
