WOLVERINES THROTTLE O’DONNELL, 75-28

The Springlake-Earth Wolverines’ varsity football team throttle O’Donnell on Friday, 75-28.

With the win, the Wolverines improve to 3-1 overall on the season.

In the first quarter, the Wolverines struck first, as junior, Braxton Ethridge, connected with Dereck Rosalez for a 45-yard touchdown through the air. The Wolverines nailed the two-point conversion to them in front, 8-0. O’Donnell, though, would answer on the very next play, as they returned the kickoff 50 yards for a touchdown.

They nailed the kick after, to tie the game, 8-8.

Ethridge would close out the first quarter for the Wolverines with back-to-back rushing touchdowns, first punching it in from the one yard line and then following it up with an 18-yard score to make the score, 24-8, as the first quarter came to a close.

Senior, Davey Crandall, caught a 19-yard touchdown pass from Ethridge to open the second quarter and they got the one-point conversion to make the score, 31-8. Later in the quarter, senior, Evan DeLeon, got in on the scoring, as he caught a 15-yard touchdown pass from Ethridge to make the score, 37-8.

O’Donnell would cut into the lead, after scoring back-to-back passing touchdowns, but Roel Fuentes would score on a 53-yard kick-off return to make the score, 43-20, heading into the locker room at halftime.

Out of the break, Ethridge rushed for a 33-yard touchdown to open the third quarter and followed it up with a 70-yard touchdown run, pushing their lead out to, 55-20. Rosalez caught his second touchdown pass of the day, when DeLeon found him for the 39-yard score. They missed the kick after, making the score, 61-20.

O’Donnell would score on a 47-yard rushing touchdown, but senior, Trace Goodman, answered for the Wolverines with an 11-yard score to make the score, 69-28, heading into the final quarter of play.

In the fourth quarter, Tim Tanaro scored on a five-yard run to ice the game, 75-28, as the Wolverines 45’ed O’Donnell in the fourth quarter.

Ethridge finished the game 10-13 passing for 153 yards and three touchdowns, while adding 14 carries for 175 yards and four touchdowns. DeLeon was also two-off-our passing for 64 yards and one touchdown.

Fuentes chipped in nine carries for 91 yards, while, while Goodman finished with one carry for 11 yards and a touchdown and Tanaro finished with one carry for five yards and one touchdown.

In the receiving game, Rosalez led the team with three catches for 113 yards and two touchdowns, while DeLeon finished with three catches for 34 yards and a score, and Crandall added one catch for 19 yards and a touchdown.

Defensively, DeLeon had eight total tackles and an interception, while Rosales and Cain Tovar each had nine total tackles and Fuentes finished with eight total tackles and a fumble recovery.

The Wolverines will be at White Deer on Friday as their pre-district schedule continues.

Kick-off is slated for 7 p.m.
