The Littlefield Lady Cats’ varsity volleyball team improved to 4-1 in district play on Tuesday, as they took down the Dimmitt Bobbies, 3-0, at Wildcat Gym in their second meeting of the season.
Alondra Velo got set one going with an ace off of sophomore, Madison McNeese, but junior, Ashtyn Parker, followed it up with a kil off of the block attempt by Fabiola Perez, tying the set, 1-1. Dimmitt hit the ball out of bounds on the next play and Perez followed it up with a hit into the net, before McNeese delivered a kill past the block attempt by Perez, making the score, 4-1.
Parker served up an ace off of Natalie Reyes, but the Bobbies ended the scoring run for Littlefield, as JC Sepeda dropped in a kill in the back corner of the court, trimming the lead to, 5-2. McNeese quickly responded for the Lady Cats, with a kill between Velo and Reyes, before she served the following ball short of the net, making the score, 6-3.
A kill by Littlefield was tipped out of bounds by the Bobbies, but junior, Brynna Ray’s following serve was short of the net, making the score, 7-4. Marium Monreal sent a serve over the back line, but Littlefield sent a hit into the net on the next play, making the score, 8-5.
Mariah Marmolejo dropped in a kill in the back row for the Bobbies and Parker sent a kill out of bounds on the next play, trimming the lead to, 8-7. Sepeda touched the net on a block try against the hit by senior captain, Geyah Garza, pushing the lead back out to, 9-7. A tip by Monreal landed just
A tip by Monreal landed just outside the back line, but Garza’s next serve was short of the net, making the score, 10-8. Ray sent a hit into the net, but Garza answered for Littlefield with a kill off of the block attempt by Perez, making the score, 11-9.
McNeese touched the net on a swing, but a hit by sophomore, Kaeleigh Logan, on the next play, was hit out of bounds by Velo, making the score, 12-10.
A serve by Parker was was dug out by Ashleigh Broom, but the ball went over the net and landed out of bounds, pushing the lead back out to, 13-10. Parker’s next serve sailed out of bounds and Logan’s tip on the next play was short of the net, making the score, 13-12.
McNeese scored a kill off of the block attempt by Perez, but freshman, Kyndal Edgemon, and junior, Emily Champion, hit back-to-back balls out of bounds, tying the set, 14-14. Garza sent a tip over Marmolejo for a kill and Edgemon’s kill on the next play was hit out of bounds by Sepeda, pushing their lead to, 16-14.
Sepeda answered for Dimmitt with a kill over the block attempt by Garza and junior, Danielle Zapata, and Monreal’s serve went unreturned, before she sent the next serve short of the net, making the score, 17-16. Senior, Hannah Ballejo, served up back-to-back aces, before Broom sent a hit out of bounds on the next play, making the score, 20-16, as the Bobbies took a time out to talk things over.
Out of the break, Parker dropped in a tip for a kill, but Ballejo’s serve on the next play sailed out of bounds, making the score, 21-17. A block by Garza led to a four-hit call on Dimmitt, but Sepeda answered with a kill off of Ray to make the score, 22-18.
Reyes sent her serve into the net, but Sepeda was able to regain the serve for Dimmitt with a kill off of Garza, making the score, 23-19. McNeese dropped in a tip for a kill, but Sera Garcia answered with a tip of her own over the Littlefield block attempt, befor Garcia was blocked by Edgemon for a kill. Monreal was called for a double hit to get set two started, but a kill attempt by Garza on the next play landed out of bounds, tying the set, 1-1. Perez scored a kill off of the block attempt from McNeese, but Velo’s serve was short of the net on the next play, making the score, 2-2.
Parker served up an ace off of the dig by Reyes, who got the ball over the net, but it landed out of bounds, extending their lead to, 3-2. McNeese scored a kill off of Reyes, but Parker’s serve was short of the net making the score, 4-3. Littlefield hit the ball out of
Littlefield hit the ball out of bounds on the next play, and Shamicha Wilson hit a ball into the net off of the serve by Sepeda, giving the Bobbies the lead, 4-5.
Perez was called for touching the net on a tip battle with Wilson, but Perez answered, as she tipped the net on the next play for a kill. McNeese dropped in a tip in front of Perez for a kill to tie the set, 6-6. Wilson sent a hit into the net and followed it up with a hit over the back line to give the Bobbies the lead, 6-8, but Garza answered with a kill off of the block attempt by Marmolejo.
Dimmitt sent a hit into the net, but Ballejo’s serve on the following play sailed out of bounds, making the score, 8-9.
Garza’s kill attempt on the next play sailed out of bounds, but Parker responded with a kill in front of Broom to regain the serve for Littlefield. Monreal was called for a double hit and McNeese sent a kill past Reyes to regain the lead, 11-10.
Sepeda sent a kill over the back line and McNeese blocked Marmolejo for a kill, as Dimmitt took a time out, trailing the Lady Cats, 13-10. Out of the break, Garza served up an ace and Monreal’s hit on the next play sailed out of bounds, followed by another ace from Garza, stretching their lead to, 16-10.
Parker’s kill on the next play landed out of bounds and Garza sent a kill into the net on the next play, cutting the lead to, 16-12, but a hit by McNeese was hit ou of bounds by Broom, making the score, 17-12.
Dimmitt rallied back to make it a three-point game, 19-16, after McNeese’s serve fell short of the net, but Wilson, on the next play, sent a kill over the net, making the score, 20-16. Dimmitt scored a kill on the next play, and the Lady Cats, on the following play, were called for four hits, making it a two-point game, 20-18.
The Bobbies were called for a double hit and Garza dropped in a tip off of Monreal for a kill, making the score, 22-18, as they took another time out. Out of the break, a hit by Ray was hit into the net by Broom, but the Bobbies answered on the next play to make the score, 23-19.
Sepeda tipped the net for a kill and Broom served up an ace off of Garza, but a kill by Parker was hit into the net by Marmolejo, making the score, 24-21. McNeese’s tip tipped the net, but landed out of bounds, however, on the next play, McNeese scored a kill off of Perez’s block attempt to end the set, 25-22, putting the Lady Cats up, 2-0 in the match.
McNeese delivered a kill off of the block attempt by Sepeda and Perez to open set three, but a hit by Edgemon on the next play landed out of bounds, tying the set, 1-1. McNeese delivered another kill for the Lady Cats and followed it up with back-to-back aces off of Broom and Reyes, making the score, 4-1.
A hit by Sepeda was hit out of bounds by McNeese to end the scoring run for Littlefield, and Garza sent a tip into the net, before Broom hit a ball over the back line, making the score, 5-3. Ray sent her serve sailing out of bounds, but Dimmitt couldn’t take advantage, as Reyes hit a ball out of bounds, making the score, 6-4. Ballejo tipped the net for an ace
Ballejo tipped the net for an ace and Garza tipped the ball over the net for a kill, but Dimmitt answered, as Brook delivered a kill that McNeese couldn’t get to for the dig, making the score, 8-5. Garza and Parker delivered back-to-back kill, before Parker sent a hit outside of the pole for a Dimmitt point, making the score, 10-6.
Ray sent over a tip that Monreal couldn’t dig and the Lady Cats followed it up with another point, before Zapata sent a serve short of the net, making the score, 12-7. Garcia was blocked by Parker, but the ball landed out of bounds, but again, Dimmitt, couldn’t capitalize, as Velo sent a a serve out of bounds, making the score, 13-8.
A kill by Sepeda landed out of bounds and Parker’s serve was hit into the net by Garcia, before Parker sent a serve into the net, making the score, 15-9. Sepeda served up an ace off of Champion and McNeese sent a kill into the net on the next play, but Sepeda’s following serve sailed out of bounds, making the score, 16-11.
A break by Dimmitt was hit into the net by senior, Samira Medina, off of the serve from McNeese, but on the next play, Perez’s serve was returned by the Lady Cats and hit into the net by the Bobbies, making the score, 17-12, as they called a time out to talk things over.
Out of the break, Ray served up an ace off of Sepeda, and Garcia hit a ball into the net to extend the lead to, 19-12. Marmolejo was called for touching the net, but they regained the serve on the next play to trim the lead to, 20-13.
Dimmitt would draw within seven points, but Parker delivered a kill off of Broom to end the set, 25-17, and the match, 3-0.
The Lady Cats hosted the Brownfield Lady Cubs on Saturday. Results were not available at press time. They will be at Lamesa on Tuesday to take on the Lady Tornadoes.
