Lady Cats fall on the road to Denver City, 0-3

The Littlefield Lady Cats’ varsity volleyball team fell on the road to the Denver City Fillies on Tuesday, 03.

With the loss, the Lady Cat’s fall to 2-5 overall on the year.

Anaei Ojeda had a kill fall on the back row for the first point of the game, but the next serve from Jaidyn Saenz sailed out of bounds, tying the set, 1-1. Denver City had a serve sail out of bounds and the Fillies were called for being on the net during the next play, pushing Littlefield’s lead to, 3-1.

Annie Gonzalez sent a hit into the net for the Fillies, but Denver City would respond, as Kirsten Padgett delivered a kill that was dug into the net by Saenz, trimming the lead to, 4-2. Abby Rodriguez answered with a kill on the sideline for the Lady Cats, but Padgett answered quickly with a kill on the sideline to trim the lead to, 5-3.

Maggie McNeese delivered a kill that was hit out of bounds by Brooklyn McCray, but during the next play, Rylee Miller was called for being on the net, making the score, 6-4. Denver City sent a serve sailing out of bounds before calling a time out to talk things over with the score, 7-4.

Out of the break, Anna Vargas was called for being on the next and Kinzee Lowder served up back-toback aces off of Faith Balderas and McNeese to tie the set, 7-7. Denver City was called for an illegal front row attack, but Littlefield couldn’t capitalize, as Balderas’ serve fell short of the net, making the score, 8-8.

The Fillies scored a kill and a kill attempt by Mattie Seymore sailed out of bounds keeping the set tied, 9-9. The teams went backand- forth until Padgett delivered a kill in front of Balderas that sparked a nine-point Fillie rally to make the score, 10-19, before Littlefield took a time out to talk things over.

Out of the break, The Fillies were called for a double hit, but they answered with a kill on the next play to push their lead to, 11- 20. Littlefield would score two points on Denver City miscues, but the Fillies would go on to take the set, 1325.

The Lady Cats began set two in a, 0-3, hole, before Gonzalez was blocked by Miller for a kill to get the Lady Cats on the board. Littlefield could not get a rally going, as the serve from Saenz landed out of bounds, sparking a threepoint rally for the Fillies, that ended when they sent a serve short of the net, making the score, 2-6.

Gonzalez sent a hit into the net for Denver City, but Padgett responded with a kill in front of the block attempt by McNeese, making the score, 3-7. After a serve from Gonzalez sailed out of bounds for the Fillies, Padgett delivered a kill over McNeese and Vargas and Lowder followed it up with a kill through the block attempt of McNeese and Rodriguez, stretching the lead to, 4-9.

Littlefield took a time out and out of the break, the teams exchanged several points, before the Fillies delivered a kill to make the score, 9-15, sparking a ninepoint rally, that ended when Denver City sent a serve sailing out of bounds, making the score, 10- 23. Gonzalez would deliver a kill off of Ojeda and Saenz and Seymore sent a hit into the net to close out set two with the score, 10-25.

Padgett dropped in a tip for a kill to open set three, but a hit from Lowder on the next play landed out of bounds, tying the set, 1-1. Seymore and Rodriguez sent back-to-back hits out of bounds and Gonzalez 1 served up an ace off of McNeese, before sending her next serve out of bounds to make the score, 2-4.

Lowder had a tip, tipped out of bounds by Seymore, and Vargas sent a kill attempt sailing out of bounds, making the score, 2- 6. Padgett sent a serve short of the net for the Fillies and they were called for touching the net, trimming the lead to, 4-6. The Lady Cats couldn’t capitalize, as Saenz sent a serve sailing out of bounds and the Fillies followed it up with a kill in front of McNeese and Vargas to extend their lead to, 4-8.

Denver City’s next serve fell short of the net and McNeese followed it up with a kill at the net for Littlefield to trim the lead to, 6-8. Denver City responded with a kill in front of the block attempt by McNeese and Ojeda and on the next play, McNeese was blocked for a kill to push the lead to, 6- 10. The play sparked an eight-point rally, before Lowder sent a serve sailing out of bounds to make the score, 7-18.

Gonzalez answered with a kill and Seymore delivered a block on the next play, but the ball landed out of bounds, making the score, 7-20. McNeese delivered a kill through the Fillies’ block attempt, but her next serve fell short of the net, making the score, 8-21. The Lady Cats would rally, as Saenz served up an ace to make it a 10-point game, 14-24, but two plays later, Saenz’s serve sailed out of bounds, as Denver City took set three, 15-25, and the match, 0-3.

The Lady Cats hosted a tournament this weekend. Results were not available at press time. They will continue their season on Tuesday with a road game against Post.

The first set is scheduled for 6 p.m.
