The Littlefield Lady Cats’ varsity volleyball team opened up their regular season on Tuesday night with a home victory over the Dimmitt Bobbies, 30.
With the win, the Lady Cats start their season 1-0.
Nevaeh Lopez’s serve was returned out of bounds by the Bobbies to open set one and her next serve landed out of bounds off of Giselle Santellano, making the score, 2-0. Lopez kept it going with an ace in front of Harmonee Moreno, but Dimmitt would answer on the next play, as Idanis Ortega sent a hit past Maggie McNeese and Nia Cleveland for a kill to trim the lead to, 3-1.
McNeese sent a hit sailing out of bounds to make it a onepoint game, 3-2, but some misscommunication byIdalis Ortega and Moreno gave the Lady Cats the serve back with the score, 4-2. Yollet Venzor was called for an illegal front-row attack for Dimmitt and Idalis Ortega mistimed a hit at the net for the Bobbies to push Littlefield’s lead to, 6-2.
A tip by Madison Williams landed just out of bounds to end the rally, but the Lady Cats responded quickly, as McNeese delivered a kill in front of Idanis Ortega to stretch their lead to, 7-3. Cleveland stepped over the serve line for the Lady Cats, but Mattie Seymore responded with a kill off of CJ Sepeda and Moreno to regain the serve, making the score, 8-4.
McNeese and Moreno exchanged serves out of bounds and Cobi Saldana served up an ace off of Aracelli Herrera, before sending a serve out of bounds, pushing the lead to, 106. Dimmitt would not lie down, as they battled back to make it a one-point game, 13-12, after a tip by McNeese fell short of the net.
Dimmitt couldn’t capitalize, though, as Idanis Ortega had a serve land out of bounds on the sideline, pushing Littlefield’s lead back out to, 14-12. Cleveland would extend their lead with back-to-back aces, before sending a serve short of the net to make the score, 16-13.
London Taylor sent a kill sailing out of bounds for the Lady Cats, and McNeese had a kill land out of bounds on the sideline, before Yuralee Aguero tipped the net with a serve, but the ball landed out of bounds on the sideline, making the score, 17-15.
Santellano sent a hit into the net for Dimmitt and McNeese followed it up with an ace off of Yuraelee Aguero, stretching their lead to, 19-15. Seymore kept it going with a tip in front of Yuralee Aguero for a kill, before McNeese sent a serve sailing out of bounds, trimming the lead to, 20-16. Dimmitt couldn’t get anything going, as Sepeda sent a hit into the net, giving the serve back to the Lady Cats with the score, 2116.
Saldana sent an ace past Sepeda, before sending a serve out of bounds to make the score, 22-17. Santellano had her serve land out of bounds, but Williams was called for a double-hit, giving the serve back to the Bobbies with the lead cut to, 23-18. Saldana was called for back-to-back fouls, as Littlefield called a time out to talk things over.
Out of the break, Lopez sent a kill past Sepeda and she followed it up with an ace off of Millie Aguero to close out the set, 25-20.
Venzor and Lopez each exchanged serves short of the net, before Saldana set McNeese up for a kill on the next play, making the score, 21. Idalis Ortega had a hit blocked by McNeese, but the ball landed out of bounds on the sideline to tie the set, 2-2. Sepeda sent a hit out of bounds on the sideline for the Bobbies, but on the next play, Seymore was blocked by Sepeda for a kill, keeping the set tied, 3-3.
Dimmitt hit a ball out of bounds and McNeese followed it up with an ace off of Annaly Morales to extend their lead to, 5-3. McNeese’s next serve was dug into the net byYuralee Aguero, but on the next play, a dig by Faith Balderas landed out of bounds, making the score, 6-4. Sepeda was called for being on the net during a block attempt and Herrera dug out a ball on the next play, but it landed out of bounds on the sideline, pushing the lead to, 84.
Saldana would serve up an ace in front of YuraleeAguero, before she had her next serve tip the net and land out of bounds on the sideline, making the score, 9-5. Idanis Ortega was blocked by Lopez for a kill and Balderas served up an ace off of Millie Aguero that sparked a six-point rally, before she had a serve fall short of the net, extending their lead to, 16-6.
Idanis Ortega delivered a kill off of Williams, but on the next play, Idalis Ortega sent a hit into the net, making the score, 177, as Littlefield regain the serve. Millie Aguero sent a dig into the net off of the serve from Lopez, but Lopez’s next serve sailed out of bounds, pushing the lead to, 18-8.
Idanis Ortega had a serve land out of bounds on the sideline and Williams followed it up with back-to-back aces, before sending a serve short of the net, extending the lead to, 21-9. Dimmitt was called for being out of position on the next serve, and on the following play, Venzor couldn’t save a ball off of the net, pushing the lead to, 23-9.
Cleveland sent a serve out of bounds, but on the next serve, Dimmitt was called again for being out of position. Lopez would close out the set with a kill on the sideline, as the Lady Cats took set two, 2510.
Dimmitt scored a kill in the back corner to open set three, but Cleveland answered with a tip for a kill to tie the set, 1-1. Idanis Ortega answered with a kill through the block attempt of McNeese, but her next serve fell short of the net keeping the set tied, 2-2. McNeese sent a kill past Morales and on the next play, Venzor had a hit land out of bounds on the sideline, making the score, 4-2.
Seymore dropped in a tip on the sideline for a kill, but Cleveland sent a serve out of bounds making the score, 5-3. Dimmitt was covered up on the serve, but Littlefield couldn’t capitalize, as McNeese sent a serve short of the net, making the score, 6-4. A kill attempt by Seymore sailed out of bounds, but Taylor dropped in a tip over Santellano for a kill to stretch their lead to, 7-5.
Saldana served up an ace in front of Millie Aguero and Dimmitt was out of position on the next serve, giving the point to Littlefield, making the score, 9-5. Santellano sent a hit into the net off of the serve from Saldana, as Dimmitt took a time out to talk things over. Out of the break, Williams delivered a kill off of the set from Saldana, but a kill try by McNeese on the next play landed out of bounds, making the score, 116.
Santellano’s serve was off of the mark and Idanis Ortega sent a hit short of the net to make the score, 13-6. Littlefield had back-to-back miscues, before Cleveland delivered a kill off of Moreno to extend the lead to, 14-8. Cleveland would get called for being on the net, but on the next play, a hit by Williams was dug into the net byYuraleeAguero, pushing the lead to, 15-9.
Williams served up an ace off of Santellano and Cleveland followed it up with a kill on the sideline to stretch the lead to, 17-9. Seymore kept it going with a kill off of Yuralee Aguero and Williams served up an ace in front of Yuralee Aguero to extend their lead to, 19-9. The next serve from Williams landed out of bounds on the sideline, but McNeese responded with a kill off of the block attempt by Idalis Ortega, pushing their lead to, 20-10.
Seymore delivered back-toback kills off of long digs from Dimmitt, before a serve from Cleveland landed out of bounds on the sideline, making the score, 22-11. Moreno delivered a kill for Dimmitt, but Sepeda had a hit land out of bounds on the sideline, making the score, 23-12. Moreno and Sepeda scored back-to-back kills for Dimmitt, but Seymore answered with a kill off of Sepeda and a few plays later, Williams delivered a kill off of Millie Aguero to close out the set, 2516, and the match, 3-0.
The Lady Cats were at Monahans for their first tournament of the season this weekend. Results were not available at press time. They will be at Denver City on Tuesday to take on the Fillies. The first set is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
