The Man behind Black History Month

Black History Month is an annual celebration of achievements by African Americans and a time for recognizing their central role in U.S. history. Also known as African American History Month, the event grew out of “Negro History Week,” the brainchild of noted historian Carter G. Woodson and other prominent African Americans. Since 1976, every U.S. president has officially designated the month of February as Black History Month. Other countries around the world, including Canada and the United Kingdom, also devote a month to celebrating Black history.

Marriage conference set for Feb. 12-13

Commissioners to meet Monday

Lamb County Commissioners will conduct a business meeting at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 8, 2021, in the Lamb County Courthouse, where they will consider nine items on their agenda. That also includes the five consent agenda items, to make the agenda ten items for their consideration.

The sentence of 10 years in TDCJ, Correctional Institutions Division was suspended and the defendant was placed on Community Supervision for 10 years.

Youth Tour canceled due to COVID-19

In 1965, ELECtriC cooperatives across Texas joined forces to send a busload of youths to Washington, D.C. There the teens met with President Lyndon B. Johnson, explored the capital, and forged memories and friendships to last a lifetime.

On Wednesday, October 7, 2020, Governor Abbott issued Executive Order GA-32, which superseded GA-30. Significantly, GA-32 updates the thresholds for areas with high hospitalizations.

Tyree Jones headed to ENMU to play football

Wednesday was National Signing Day for high school athletes across the nation. Littlefield senior, Tyree Jones, signed his National Letter of Intent on Wednesday in the Courtyard of Littlefield High School to continue his football career at Eastern New Mexico University.
