Lamb Co. Farm Bureau Supports Community Food Programs

In support of Food Connection Day, local community food programs across the county received generous donations in the amount of $1,000 each from the Lamb County Farm Bureau (LCFB). Texas Farm Bureau has been known as The Voice of Texas Agriculture since 1933.

Monday, the Senate approved part of a package that would increase benefits paid to the state’s retired educators, one that differs somewhat from the version approved by the Senate in March. Retired teachers haven’t seen a cost of living adjustment since 2013, and that was only for teachers who retired prior to 2004.

House lawmakers defy Abbott on vouchers A key House education committee adjourned last week without voting on a school voucher bill that is Gov. Greg Abbott’s top priority this session, the Houston Chronicle reported. Barring some unforeseen maneuver in the last week of the regular legislative session, the bill is effectively dead for now.

South Plains College Students Receive Academic Awards

South Plains College presented academic and service awards to 146 students who displayed the highest level of achievement throughout the 2022-2023 academic year. Local and area students are: Diego Caudillo and Geyah Garza both of Littlefield, Liliana Jimenez of Amherst, Esteban Rodriguez of Olton, Bo Mens of Anton, and Alarick Hernandez and Maribel Gomez both of Muleshoe.

Xcel Energy signs statement of support for National Guard and Reserve for the 15th consecutive year

Last week, Bob Frenzel, chairman, president and CEO of Xcel Energy, signed a national statement backing the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), a Department of Defense agency, for the 15th consecutive year. The ESGR program exists to ensure that employees who also serve in the Guard and Reserve have the resources and support they need to maintain their careers while also keeping their country safe.
