The Springlake- Earth Wolverines’ varsity baseball team picked up a district victory over Petersburg on Friday, 15-3.
With the win, the Wolverines improve to 1-1 in district play.
Donovan Stiggers pitched one inning, giving up three walks and two runs, 0 earned, while earning one strikeout. Jacob Alvarez pitched five innings giving up one hit, two walks and one run, while earning nine strikeouts.
The Buffaloes jumped out in front early with two runs in the bottom of the first inning, but the Wolverines would answer with six runs in the top of the fourth to make the score, 6-2. The Buffaloes would add a run in the bottom half of the fourth to cut the lead to, 63, but Springlake-Earth responded with six runs in the top of the fifth and three runs in the top of the sixth to take the contest, 15-3.
At the plate, the Wolverines totaled seven hits and eight walks as a team, led by Luis Hernandez, who tallied two hits, one walk and an RBI. Easton Bradley had one hit, one walk and one RBI, while Jacob Alvarez added two walks, one hit and one RBI. Robert Flores chipped in one hit, one walk and two RBI’s, while Bryan Lonoria contributed two walks, one hit and one RBI.
Ethan Mosqueda tallied an RBI, while Nathan Ramos finished with one walk and one RBI.
The Wolverines were back in action on Tuesday when they hosted Nazareth. Results were not available at press time. They will continue district play on Saturday with a home game against Crosbyton.
First pitch is scheduled for 11 a.m.
