The Littlefield Wildcats’ varsity football team clashed with Christoval in Lamesa on Friday, taking down the Cougars, 62-21, to stay unbeaten on the year.
With the win, the Wildcats improve to 4-0 overall on the season.
Danny Alfaro opened the contest with a 23-yard touchdown run for the Cougars, followed by the PAT to give Christoval a, 7-0, lead, but the Wildcats would answer, as Sammy Saenz connected with Gabe Mata for a 75-yard touchdown pass. The PAT from Jayden Barrio was good, pushing their lead to, 7-7.
Later in the first quarter, Saenz would punch in a oneyard touchdown run, followed by Barrio’s PAT, making the score, 14-7, but Christoval would respond, as Ty Debusk would score on a seven-yard touchdown run, followed by the PAT to knot the game, 14-14, going into quarter number two.
The Wildcats would take over in the second frame, as Barrio caught a 50-yard touchdown pass from Saenz to put the back in front after his PAT, 21-14. Later in the quarter, Jonas Camacho would get in on the scoring, as he scored from fouryards out and Barrio drilled the PAT to extend their lead to, 28-14. Saenz would find paydirt on a 15-yard touchdown run to close out the first half, making the score, 35-14, after the PAT, going into the locker room at halftime.
Daniel Rojas opened the second half with a one-yard rushing touchdown that was followed with the PAT from Barrio, stretching their lead to, 42-14, however, the Cougars would answer as Debusk got loose on a 42yard touchdown run, trimming the lead to, 42-21, after the PAT. Saenz would find Barrio for a 70-yard touchdown pass to close out the third quarter, making the score, 48-21, after the missed PAT, going into the final quarter of play.
In the final frame, Rojas would score on a two-yard touchdown run and Brandon Espinoza would break free on a 56-yard touchdown run and both PAT’s were good from Barrio, as Littlefield went on to take the contest, 62-21.
The Wildcats totaled 649 yards of offense, including 315 passing yards and 334 rushing yards.
Offensively, Saenz finished the game 11 -20 passing for 315 yards and three touchdowns, while also adding nine carries for 75 yards and two scores on the ground.
Rojas led the rushing attack with 10 carries for 12 yards and two touchdowns, while Espinoza chipped in three carries for 85 yards and a score, and Camacho added nine carries for 60 yards and a touchdown.
In the receiving game. Barrio led the way with five catches for 163 yards and two touchdowns, while Mata contributed two catches for 100 yards and a score. AJ Cantu tallied two for 30 yards and Jacob Fucntes finished with two catches for 22 yards.
Defensively, Barrio led the Wildcats with five tackles, including one for loss and an interception, while CJ Weaver tallied three tackles and one sack in the contest. Rojas led the team in tackles with 11, including one for loss, while Jonah Ramirez notched eight tackles and James Lockridge and Cantu each tallied seven tackles.
As a team, the Wildcats had 11 tackles for loss.
