The Littlefield Wildcats’ varsity baseball team came up short in their second meeting with the Slaton Tigers on Saturday, falling at home, 9-3.
With the loss, the Wildcats fall to 5-7 in district play.
Ana Ayala pitched one inning for the Wildcats, giving up three hits, three walks and six runs, three earned, while earning one strikeout. Gabe Mata pitched five innings, giving up five hits and two runs, one earned, while earning three strikeouts. Blayton Soliz pitched one inning, giving up one hit and one unearned run, while striking out two batters.
Slaton jumped out in front early, taking a, 6-0, lead in the first inning, Littlefield would scratch two runs across in the bottom of the second inning and one run in the bottom of the third to cut the lead in half, 6-3. The Tigers, though, would shut the Wildcats down over the next four innings, while adding a run in the top of the fourth, fifth and seventh innings to take the contest, 93.
At the plate, the Wildcats tallied seven hits and four walks as a team, led by Dawson Adkins, who had a homerun and two RBI’s in the contest. Mata had two hits, including a double, one walk and one RBI, while CJ Weaver recorded a hit and two walks, and Ayala tallied a hit and a walk.
Jayden Kirkland and Kyzer Billingsley each recorded a hit in the contest as well.
The Wildcats hosted Dimmitt on Tuesday. Results were not available at press time. They will wrap up their season on Friday on the road against Shallowater.
First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.
