The Littlefield Wildcats’varsity baseball team suffered a tough loss on the road Thursday night, falling to the Eagles at Roosevelt, 6-5.
With the loss, the Wildcats fall to 4-6 in district play.
Gabe Mata started on the mound for the Wildcats, pitching five innings, giving up seven hits, three walks and five runs, three earned, while earning six strikeouts. Ana Ayala pitched one inning, giving up one hit, two walks and one run, while earning one strikeout.
The Wildcats jumped out in front early with four runs in the top of the first inning, taking a, 4-0, lead. The lead stood until the top of the third, when Littlefield plated another run to extend their lead to, 5-0.
Roosevelt would respond in the bottom of the fourth inning with four runs to cut the lead to, 5-4. The Eagles would plate a run in the bottom of the fifth and sixth innings to take a, 6-5, advantage into the final inning. The Eagles blanked the Wildcats in the top of the seventh to take the contest, 6-5.
As a team, the Wildcats totaled five hits and seven walks, led by Cayson Villarreal, who tallied four hits and one RBI. Tate Clark chipped in one hit and one walk, whileAyala drew three walks in the contest. Dawson Adkins, Kyzer Billingsley and Blayton Soliz each drew a walk in the contest.
The Wildcats were at Friona on Tuesday to take on the Chieftains. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.
