Wildcats fall to Dumas, 46-44, to close out Classic

The Littlefield Wildcats’ varsity basketball team fell to the Dumas Demons in the third-place game, 46-44, to close out play at the Wildcat Classic last week.

With the loss, the Wildcats finished tournament play for the week 2-2.

Dumas outscored the Wildcats, 20-16, through the first quarter, and, 8-6, in a low-scoring second frame, taking a, 28-22, lead into the locker room at halftime.

Littlefield would bounce back in the second half, pouring in 12 points in the third quarter, cutting the lead to, 36-34, going into the final quarter of play. In the fourth quarter, the Wildcats would outscore the Demons, 11-10, falling just short in their comeback efforts, 4644.

The Wildcats were led by Jayden Barrio, who tallied 18 points, six rebounds, two assists and one steal, while Sammy Saenz chipped in nine points, five assists, two rebounds, one steal and block, and Elijah Rodriguez contributed eight points, four rebounds and two steals.

Nate Castaneda tallied five points, seven rebounds, and two steals, while Andrew Davis tallied three points, four rebounds, two steals and one assist, and Jose Payan added one point, one rebound, one assist and one steal.
