Wildcats edge out Floydada, 71-69

The Littlefield Wildcats’ varsity basketball went on the road Tuesday and took down the Whirlwinds in Floydada, 71-69.

With the win, the Wildcats improve to 1-2 overall on the year.

The Wildcats jumped out to an early lead, 21-15, in the first quarter, but Floydada scratched back into the game, outscoring Littlefield, 13-12, in the second frame to make the score, 33-28, going into the locker room at halftime.

Littlefield would pour in 25 points in the third quarter to take a, 58-51, lead into the final frame, but in the fourth quarter, Floydada would net 19 points, as Littlefield held on for the victory, 71-69.

Kam McCarty led the team in scoring with 24 points, to go along with seven rebounds, one assist and one block. Nate Castaneda joined him in double-figures scoring with 13 points, five rebounds, three steals and two assists, while Ryan Williams tallied 12 points, three assists and two rebounds and Chip Green contributed 12 points, nine rebounds and two steals.

Andrew Davis tallied four points and six rebounds, while Jayden Barrio added four points, two rebounds, two assists and two steals, and Eizeah Coleman finished with two points and one rebound. Jose Payan also added three rebounds in the contest.
