The annual volleyball tournament held during last weekend’s Amherst celebration drew enthusiastic crowds and spirited competition, with teams from across the region coming together for an afternoon of fun and friendly rivalry.
A total of seven teams competed in the double-elimination tournament, which began around 1:00 p.m. and concluded with an exciting championship match shortly after 6:00 p.m.
Representing Amherst were three teams:
·Vega Team: Able Vega, Able Vega Jr., Dariawa Vega, and Nico Cueto
·The OG’s: Jesus Pacheco, Michael Rey, Memo Pacheco, and Jonathan Cardenas
·Return Defenders (RDs): Isaac Herrera, Omar Reyes, Joel Garcia, and Jaime Garcia From Littlefield, two teams joined the bracket:
·Pinto Beans: Angel Valdez, Jonathan Davis, Andrew Velez, and Gabe Mata.
·P2: Bri Valdez, Ellie Lopez, Cobi Saldana, and Nevaeh Lopez.
Levelland was represented by one team: ·Cero Miedo: Gage Grado, Nathan Rendon, Marisa Reyes, Donnie Choppa, and Kadi Salinas Muleshoe also fielded a strong team:
·Kick ‘Em: Brandon Ramirez, Christian Jabanero, Sergio Magallanes, Jesus Hernandez, Yahir Quezada, and Edgar Delgado After several competitive matchups, the Return Defenders from Amherst battled their way to the final game, earning the title of tournament runner-up. But it was Kick ‘Em from Muleshoe who emerged victorious, claiming the championship title for the 2025 tournament.
The event was a tremendous success, full of energy, teamwork, and community spirit. A heartfelt thank you goes out to all players, supporters, and organizers who helped make the tournament one of the highlights of this year’s Amherst celebration.
