The Olton Fillies’ varsity volleyball team took down the Dimmitt Bobbies at the Littlefield Tournament on Thursday, 2-0, in their second match of the day.
With the win, the Fillies improved to 1-1 in tournament play on the weekend.
Olton jumped out to an, 8-3, lead in set one after Dimmitt was called for an illegal front row attack, but Amie Beelitz’s next serve was short of the net, making the score, 8-4. The Bobbies dug out a hit by Aspen Struve, but it fell in for an Olton point to extend the lead to, 9-4.
A kill by the Fillies was tipped out of bounds by the Bobbies, but on the next play, Adrienne Struve sent a hit into the net, making the score, 10-5. Aspen Struve was called for a doublehit on the next play and a hit by Olton fell short of the net on the following sequence, slicing the lead to, 10-7.
Victoria Hernandez served up an ace off of Aracely Avalos , but a hit by Alexis Quiroz on the following play landed out of bounds, making the score, 11-8, as the serve went back over to Olton. EmmaAcker delivered a kill, but the Bobbies responded on the next play, as Quiroz dropped in a kill to make the score, 12-9.
A kill attempt by McKayla Delgado on the next play sailed out of bounds and Beelitz followed it up with a kill at the net off of a long dig from Quiroz to make the score, 14-9. Aspen Struve’s serve was returned short of the net by Dimmitt and she followed it up with an ace off of Hernandez to push their lead to, 16-9.
Dimmitt took a time out and out of the break, Aspen Struve’s serve fell short of the net, however, the Fillies would bounce back on the next play, as Acker had a hit blocked by Delgado, but the ball landed out of bounds for an Olton point, making the score, 17-10. Ciara Zermeno served up an ace off of Hernandez and Payge Davina followed it up with a kill that Renata Rodriguez couldn’t get to for the dig, pushing the lead to, 19-10.
Kimberly Solis sent a kill sailing out of bounds for Dimmitt and Zermeno followed it up with an ace to extend their lead to, 21-10. Beelitz had a hit blocked by Delgado, but the ball landed out of bounds for another Olton point and Zermeno followed it up with an ace off of Alina Mora to make the score, 23-10.
Solis stopped the bleeding with a kill off of Evelyn Matute, but Quiroz’s serve on the next play fell short of the net and Olton closed the door in set one, as Adrienne Struve had a kill partially blocked by Delgado before it fell in for an Olton point to end set one, 25-11.
Braylnn Chavira’s serve to open set two for Dimmitt fell short of the net and Quiroz and Delgado sent backto- back hits out of bounds for the Bobbies, making the score, 3-0. Olton couldn’t capitalize on the miscues, as Aspen Struve sent a serve out of bounds on the sideline to make the score, 3-1. Quiroz’s serve also sailed out of bounds and Delgado, on the next play, sent a hit into the net, making the score, 5-1.
Denisse Alvarado sent a serve short of the net for Olton, but the Fillies answered with a tip for a kill on the next play to make the score, 6-2.Adig by Solis landed out of bounds for the Bobbies, and Beelitz followed it up with an ace off of Mora to push their lead to, 8-2. A return by Chavira off of the serve from Beelitz did not make it back over the net, as Dimmitt took a time out to talk things over, trailing the Fillies, 10-2.
Beelitz would serve up another ace off of Quiroz, before a hit on the next play didn’t make it over the net, trimming the lead to, 10-3. Davina’s hit on the next play didn’t make it over the net, but Adrienne Struve delivered a kill in front of Brooklyn Catano to make the score, 10-4, as Olton regained the serve.
Dimmitt would respond, as the Bobbies delivered a kill off of Zermeno and followed it up with an ace from Hernandez to cut the lead to, 11-6. Adrienne Struve sent a kill past Hernandez and Avalos followed it up with an ace off of Hernandez to make the score, 13-6. Quiroz sent a hit into the net for the Bobbies and Avalos snuck an ace just inside the back line to make the score, 15-6. Quiroz sent another hit into the net for Dimmitt, but Jocelyn Jimenez answered with a kill off ofAvalos to trim the lead to, 167.
Adrienne Struve was blocked by Delgado and Quiroz for a kill, but on the next play, Kristavia Smith sent a hit out of bounds on a save attempt to make the score, 17-8. Olton couldn’t capitalize, as Alvarado was called for touching the net on the next play, but Chavira’s following serve fell short of the net, pushing the Olton lead to, 189.
Olton would close out the set on a, 7-3 scoring run to take set two, 25-12, and the match 2-0.
