Olton falls to New Home to close out regular season

The Olton Mustangs’ varsity football team went on Friday to take on the New Home Leopards, falling 21-2.

With the loss, the Mustangs fall to 6-4 overall, 2-3 in district play.

The game remained scoreless through the opening frame, but in the second quarter, Jake Fogerson picked off Olton quarterback, Raymond Ramirez, and took it 57 yards to the house for the pick-six to put New Home in front, 7-0, after the PAT. New Home would add a two-yard rushing touchdown followed by the PAT to close out the first half in front of Olton, 14-0.

In the third quarter, Caleb Cook connected with Fogerson for an 80-yard touchdown pass followed by the PAT to make the score, 21-0, going into the final quarter of play.

In the final frame, Isrrael Velez recorded a safety for the Mustangs, as they fell to the Leopards, 21-2.

Offensively, Ramirez finished the game 28-42 passing for 212 yards and two interceptions.

In the rushing attack, Fabian Gutierrez tallied 26 carries for 94 yards, while Ramirez added 24 carries for 74 yards and Jett Tomsu tallied two carries for six yards.

In the receiving game, Jaxon Tomsu hauled in 10 catches for 84 yards, while Zayden Falcon tallied six catches for 76 yards and Alan Vasquez added five catches for 26 yards. Manny Carrasco contributed five catches for 24 yards.

Defensively, Velez tallied five tackles, one for loss and a safety, while Gutierrez and Adolfo Garcia each added five tackles, and Victor Reyes finished with four tackles.

The Mustangs will take on the Sunray Bobcats on Friday at Happy Bank Stadium in Canyon.

Kick-off is slated for 4 p.m.
