The Sudan Nettes’ varsity basketball team used a second half push to pull away from the Smyer Lady Cats on Tuesday, taking the district contest, 85-53.
With the win, the Nettes improve to 17-5 overall, 5-1 in district play.
Smyer jumped out in front early on the Nettes, taking a, 19-11, lead to end the first quarter, but the Nettes came buzzing back in the second frame, pouring in 27 points, to take a, 38-36, lead into the locker room at halftime.
The Nettes held the Lady Cats to 17 points in the second half, while pouring in 25 points in the third quarter and 22 points in the fourth quarter en route to the victory.
The Nettes were led by Blessy Montes, who posted a double-double with 24 points and 10 steals, to go along with five rebounds, two blocks and one assist. She was joined in double-figures scoring by Edette Herrera, who chipped in 17 points, seven steals, five rebounds, five assists and one block, and Addison Cornelius, who contributed 14 points, eight rebounds and one steal.
Haylee Toscano tallied 12 points and one assist, while Melo Rodriguez contributed six points, six rebounds, three assists, one steal and one block, and Lexi Jennings added four points, four rebounds and one steal. Kaileigh Greenwalt chipped in four points, two assists and one steal, while Erica Herrera added three points, two rebounds, one assist and one steal, and Emry Humphreys finished with one point, five rebounds and one assist.
The Nettes traveled to New Deal on Friday to take on the Lady Lions. Results were not available at press time. They will open the second half of district play on Tuesday with a road game against Lockney.
Tip-off is scheduled for 6:15 p.m.
