Nettes sting roughettes, 71-65

The Sudan Nettes’ varsity basketball team took down the Sundown Roughettes on Friday, 7165, in Sudan.

With the win, the Nettes improve to 11-4 overall on the season.

The first quarter was tighley contested, with both teams netting 17 points. However, in the second frame, Sudan pulled away, outscoring Sundown, 18-7, to take a, 35-24, lead into the locker room at halftime.

In the third quarter, the Nettes edged out the Roughettes, 19-17, to take a, 54-41, lead into the final quarter of play. Sundown came out hot in the final quarter, as they outscored, Sudan, 24-17, but the Nettes prevailed with the, 71-65, victory.

The Nettes were led by Melo Rodriguez, who tallied 17 points, seven rebounds, six steals and three assists, while Blessy Montes tallied 17 points, six steals, five rebounds and two assists and Edette Herrera contributed 15 points, nine rebounds, five steals, four assists and one block.

Addison Cornelius chipped in eight points, seven rebounds, two steals and one assist, while Kaileigh Greenwalt contributed seven points, three rebounds and three steals, and Haylee Toscano chipped in four points, five rebounds and one assist. Emry Humphreys added three points and one rebound, while Lexi Jennings finished with three rebounds.

The Nettes opened district play on Tuesday at home against Lockney. Results were not available at press time. They will continue their season on Friday with a district game at Floydada.

Tip-off is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
