The Sudan Nettes’ varsity softball team split their series with the Ralls Lady Rabbits on Friday and Saturday, dropping game one, 19-15, before taking game two, 11-9.
The Nettes improve to 21 in district play.
In game one, Danalei Kelley pitched 3.2 innings, giving up 17 hits, two walks and 15 runs, 14 earned, while earning two strikeouts. Danielle Mitchell pitched 3.1 innings, giving up three hits, two walks and four runs, 0 earned, while earning three strikeouts.
Sudan kept the Lady Rabbits scoreless in the first inning, while jumping out to a, 4-0, lead in the bottom of the first inning. Each team would add a run in the second inning, before Ralls exploded for nine runs in the top of the third, making the score, 10-5. The Nettes would answer with five runs in the bottom half of the third to knot the game, 10-10.
Ralls would outscore the Nettes, 5-1, in the fourth inning to take a, 15-11, lead into the fifth inning. Both teams were kept scoreless in the fifth, but they each added three runs in the top of the sixth to make the score, 18-14, going into the final inning. In the seventh each team plated one run, as Sudan fell short in their comeback efforts, 19-15.
As a team the Nettes totaled 11 hits and seven walks, led by Maya Williams, who had two hits, including a triple and three RBI’s. Mitchell added a triple and a walk, while Piper Pool chipped in two hits, including a double and an RBI, and Scarlett Pool added a double and three RBI’s.
In game two, Mitchell pitched a complete seven inning game, giving up six hits, six walks and nine runs, three earned, while earning six strikeouts.
In the first inning, Sudan jumped out to a, 3-2, lead, before adding a run in the second inning and three in the third inning, making the score, 7-2. Ralls would answer in the bottom of the third with six runs to take the lead, 8-7.
Both teams plated a run in the fifth inning before going scoreless in the sixth inning, making the score, 9-8, going into the final inning. In the top of the seventh, Sudan scratched three runs across, before holding Ralls scoreless in the home-half of the inning to take game two, 119.
The Nettes totaled 12 hits and five walks as a team, led by Andrea Williams, who tallied two hits, one walk and two RBI’s. Maya Williams added ne hits and two RBI’s, while Mitchell chipped in two hits, including a double and one walk, and Daniella Ramirez contributed two hits, one walk and one RBI.
Kyndal Wilson tallied a double, a walk and one RBI, while Piper Pool added two hits and two RBI’s, and Kelley finished with two hits in the contest.
The Nettes hosted Hale Center on Tuesday for their first match-up of district play. Results were not available at press time. They will continue district play on Saturday with a road game against Hale Center.
First pitch is scheduled for 11 a.m.
