Nettes hold off Bovina on the road, 78-66

The Sudan Nettes’ varsity basketball team held off Bovina on Tuesday, taking their second meeting, 78-66, to take the season series, 2-0.

With the win, the Nettes improve to 18-11 overall, 5-3 in district play.

It was a tight game through the first quarter with Sudan clinging to a five-point lead, 18-13. Bovina, though, would pour in 23 points in the second frame to cut Sudan’s lead to one point, 37-36, going into the locker room at halftime.

The Nettes would bounce back in the second half, outscoring the Fillies, 19-14, in the third quarter and, 22-16, in the fourth quarter to take the contest, 78-66.

Addison Cornelius led the team in scoring with a team-high 23 points, to go along with six rebounds, two assists and two steals. Edette Herrera tallied 15 points, 11 assists, seven rebounds and five steals, while Erica Herrera chipped in11 points, six rebounds and two steals and Haylee Toscano contributed 10 points, five rebounds, four steals and three assists.

Emry Humphreys tallied nine points and six rebounds, while Lexi Jennings added seven points, four steals and two rebounds, and Kaileigh Greenwalt finished with three points, two steals and one rebound.

The Nettes hosted the Olton Fillies on Friday. Results were not available at press time. They will wrap up the regular season on Tuesday with a road game against Hale Center.

Tip-off is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
