nETTES GO 5- 0 TO TAKE O. W. Follis Tournament

The Sudan Nettes’ varsity basketball team went 5-0 at the O.W. Follis Tournament in Lamesa this week, taking the Tournament Championship over Colorado High School, 68-34.

With the wins, the Nettes improve to 9-4 overall on the season.

In the champiohship game over Colorado High School, the Nettes opened the contest on a, 15-8, run and added 16 points in the second frame to take a, 31-18, lead into the locker room at halftime.

In the second half, the Nettes outscored their opponent, 19-10, in the third quarter and and 18-6, in the fourth quarter to take the contest, 68-34.

They were led by Melo Rodriguez, who had a game high 30 points, to go along with four rebounds, four assists and three steals. She was joined in doublefigures scoring by Edette Herrera, who tallied 12 points, seven steals, four rebounds and four assists, and Blessy Montes, who netted 10 points, to go along with six rebounds four assists and two steals.

Addison Cornelius tallied six points, eight rebounds, one assist and one steal, while Haylee Toscano chipped in five points, three steals and one rebound, and Emry Humphreys contributed three points, four rebounds, one assist and one block. Lexi Jennings tallied two points, five rebounds and three steals, while Kaileigh Greenwalt added two rebounds and one assist and Erica Herrera finished with two rebounds and two steals.

In their first game of the tournament against Stanton, the Nettes cruised to an, 86-34, victory.

It was a close game through one quarter with Sudan leading, 15-10, after the opening frame, but the Nettes offense went off in the second quarter outscoring Stanton, 26-5, to take a, 41-15, lead into the locker room at halftime.

The Nettes tallied 24 points in the third quarter and 21 points in the final frame to take the contest, 86-34.

Montes led the way with 22 points, 11 steals, six assists and four rebounds, while Rodriguez tallied 17 points, seven assists, four steals and five rebounds, and Greenwalt chipped in 13 points, two steals, two rebounds and one assist.

Toscano contributed 12 points, four steals, three assists and two rebounds, while Edette Herrera tallied seven points, seven steals, three assists and two rebounds, and Cornelius added seven points, three rebounds and two assists. Jennings tallied six points, seven rebounds, two assists and two steals, while Humphreys added two points and six rebounds, and Erica Herrera finished with two steals, one rebound and one assist.

In their second game of tournament play on Thursdaya gainst Socorro, the Nettes ran away with a, 57-29, victory.

The Nettes jumped out to a, 167, lead in the first quarter and added 16 points in the second frame to take a, 32-13, lead into the locker room at halftime. Out of the break, the Nettes outscored Socorro, 13-8, in the third quarter and, 12-8, in the fourth quarter en route to the victory.

They were led in this contest by Rodriguez, who tallied 17 points, five rebounds, three assists and one steal, while Cornelius chipped in 14 points, seven rebounds, four steals and three assists, and Edette Herrera contributed 11 points, six steals, five rebounds and four assists.

Montes tallied nine points, three steals and two rebounds, while Toscano added three points, nine rebounds, four steals and one assist, and Jennings contributed two points, three rebounds, one assist and one steal. Greenwalt added one point, three rebounds, two steals and one assist, while Erica Herrera chipped in three rebounds and one steal and Humphreys finished with two rebounds and one steal.

The Nettes opened play on Friday against Borger, rallying past the Lady Bulldogs, 74-66.

Borger jumped out to a, 20-17, lead through the first quarter, but Sudan bounced back with a 22point second quarter to take a, 3933, lead into the locker room at halftime. Borger would pour in 21 points in the third quarter to reclaim the lead, 54-48, but a 26-point outburst from Sudan in the fourth quarter, gave the Nettes the win, 74-66.

Montes led the way in this one with 22 points, six rebounds, four assists and three steals, while Edette Herrera tallied 17 points, 10 rebounds, five steals and four assists, and Corneliues contributed 12 points, six rebounds, one assist and one steal. Rodriguez chipped in 11 points, 10 rebounds, four assists, one block and one steal, while Toscano tallied eight points, six assists and four steals and Greenwalt added four points, two assists and two steals.

Jennings added one rebound and Humphreys finished with three rebounds and one steal in the contest.

In their fourth game of the tournament on Friday, Sudan coasted past the Post Lady Lopes, 82-16.

Sudan opened the contest with a 25-point first quarter and they added 23 points in the second frame to take a, 48-6, lead into the locker room at halftime.

The Nettes opened the second half with a 20-point third quarter and they added 14 points in the final frame to take the blowout victory over Post.

Cornelius led the Nettes with 20 points, 14 rebounds and four steals, while Edette Herrera tallied 15 points, 10 steals, four assists and three rebounds, and Toscano added 13 points, four steals, three rebounds and two assists. Montes contributed 10 points, three steals and one rebound, while Rodriguez added 10 points, seven rebounds, six assists and six steals, and Greenwalt finished with eight points, three rebounds and two steals.

Jennings contributed two points, three rebounds and three steals, while Erica Herrera added two points, three steals and one rebound and Humphreys finished with two points, four rebounds, four steals and one assist.

The Nettes were a Muleshoe on Tuesday to take on the Lady Mules. Results were not available at press time they will continuetheir season on Friday with a home game against Sundown.

Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
