Nettes Fall to Sundown in Bi-District round

The Sudan Nettes’ varsity softball team had their season come to an end in the Class 2A-DII Bi-district round of the play-offs, as they fell to the Sundown Roughettes in a home-andhome series, 2-0.

In game one on Friday night in Sudan, the Nettes fell, 27-1, in three innings.

Danielle Mitchell pitched three innings for the Nettes, giving up 22 hits, five walks and 27 runs, 16 earned, while striking out one batter.

Sundown jumped out in front early, 2-0, before exploding for 18 runs in the top of the second. Sudan would scratch a run across in the bottom half of the second to make the score, 20-1, but Sundown answered with seven runs in the top of the third to take the contest, 271.

The Nettes totaled three hits as a team, as Mitchell and Andrea Williams each recorded a double and Maya Williams tallied a double and an RBI.

In game two on Saturday in Sundown, the Nettes fell just short of forcing a game three, 10-5.

Danalei Kelley pitched six innings for the Nettes, giving up nine hits, nine walks and 10 runs, two earned.

Sudan got on the board early in game two, pushing four runs across in the top of the first. Sundown would cut the lead in half with two runs in the home-half of the first inning, making the score, 4-2.

The score stood until the bottom of the fourth inning, when Sundown ignited their bats for eight runs to take the lead, 10-4. Sudan pushed a run across in the top of the seventh, but it was not enough, as they dropped game two, 10-5, and the series 2-0.

In game two, the Nettes tallied 10 hits, led by Andrea Williams, who had three hits and three RBI’s. Kynleigh Green tallied two hits and one RBI, while Lillianna Sanchez added two hits, and Reyna Limon, Kelley and Mitchell each finished with a hit. Kelley also added an RBI in the contest.

The Nettes end their season with an overall mark of 15-14-1.
