Nettes comeback efforts fall short against Trinity Christian, 26-20

The Sudan Nettes’ varsity softball team fell to Trinity Christian on Friday, 26-20, in non-district play.

With the loss, the Nettes fall to 5-4 overall, 3-3 in district play.

Trinity Christian jumped out to a, 5-2, lead after one inning, and added seven runs in the top of the seven-run lead in the top of the second inning to stretch their lead to, 12-2. Sudan outscored Trinity Christian, 5-2, in the third inning to make the score, 14-7.

But, Trinity Christian exploded for 10 runs in the top of the fourth inning, while Sudan was able to scratch two runs across in the bottom of the fourth inning, making the score, 24-9. The Nettes held Trinity Christian to two runs over the next three innings, while they added, six runs in the bottom of the fifth, three in the sixth inning and two in the seventh inning, falling short in their comeback efforts, 26-20.

Landree Gonzales pitched four innings for the Nettes, earning three strikeouts, while Blessy Montes also saw time in the circle for Sudan.

Offensively, Gracyn Shultz tallied four hits and five RBI’s, while Elora Thorn also finished with five RBI’s on the day and Braelyn Pointer chipped in four hits.

The Nettes hosted New Deal on Tuesday as district play resumed. Results were not available at press time. They will be at New Deal on Saturday for their second game with the Lady Lions of the season.

First-pitch is scheduled for 11 a.m.
