The Sudan Nettes’ varsity basketball team suffered their second loss of district play on Friday, when they fell on the road to the New Deal Lady Lions, 59-52.
New Deal jumped out to an early lead in the first quarter, leading the Nettes, 15-11, going into quarter number two. Sudan would come swarming back, outscoring the Lady Lions, 17-13, in the second frame to tie the game, 28-28, going into the locker room at halftime.
The Nettes edged New Deal, 1210, in the third quarter to take a, 40-38, lead into the final quarter of play, but in the fourth quarter, New Deal poured in 21 points to take the contest, 59-52.
Edette Herrera led the Nettes in scoring with 14 points, to go along with six rebounds, three steals and one assist, while Blessy Montes joined her in double-figures scoring with 10 points, four rebounds, one assist and one steal. Melo Rodriguez chipped in nine points, 11 rebounds, four assists and four steals, while Addison Cornelius tallied six points, two assists, two steals and one rebound.
Emry Humphreys contributed six points, six rebounds and one steal, while Kaileigh Greenwalt added five points, two steals and one rebound and Haylee Toscano finished with two points, four rebounds, four steals and two assists.
The Nettes opened the second half of district play on Tuesday with a road game against the Lockney Lady Horns. Results were not available at press time. They will continue district play on Friday with a home game against Floydada.
Tip-off is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
