The Sudan Nettes’ varsity basketball team opened play on Thursday at the Tahoka Tournament, where they fell to Slaton in their opener, 71-60.
With the loss, the Nettes fall to 2-4 overall on the season.
It was a tight game early-on, with Slaton clinging to an, 18-15, lead at the end of the first quarter. The Tigerettes would pour in 21 points in the second frame to take a, 39-32, lead into the locker room at halftime.
Sudan got off to a slow start to begin the second half, as Slaton pulled away to take a, 62-42, lead into the final quarter of play. Sudan would outscore the Tigerettes, 1811, in the final frame, but it was not enough to overcome the early deficit, as they fell, 71-60.
Edette Herrera led the team with 18 points, seven rebounds, six assists, four steals and three blocks, while Addison Cornelius joined her in double-figures scoring with 17 points, nine rebounds, three steals and two assists, while Haylee Toscano joined them in double-figures scoring with 11 points, to go along with three rebounds, three steals and two assists.
Kaileigh Greenwalt tallied seven points, one rebound and one steal, while Erica Herrera chipped in four points, two rebounds, one assist and one steal, and Emry Humphreys contributed two points, one rebound and one steal. Masyn Provence added one point and one rebound, and Lexi Jennings finished with two rebounds, two assists and one steal.
